Disinfection of hot tubs and rules for their care

Modern people living at an accelerated pace, after a hard day at work, want to rest, relax and take a fragrant bath with a pleasant bubble massage. To extend this opportunity for many years, you need to use a suitable product for hot tubs and follow some care rules.

Hydromassage

Two main rules

It is recommended to clean the hot tub in a timely manner, devoting sufficient time to this procedure and using the correct and safe substances.

When choosing cleaning products, you must consider the material from which the product is made.

  • Comfortable acrylic bathtubs are most often purchased.
  • Slightly less popular are bowls made of artificial stone or cast marble.
  • It is extremely rare to find ordinary cast iron bathtubs and similar steel products with a hydromassage system, but they still exist and also require maintenance.

Whirlpool bath

If the bathtub is acrylic

Acrylic is a fairly delicate material, its surface is easy to damage, so the use of serious abrasives with coarse particles, as well as hard brushes (especially metal ones) is unacceptable here - such a procedure can damage the bathtub. When cleaning, you should not use substances containing various types of solvents, such as acetone.

As a rule, experts recommend using special cream or gel substances, as well as foams that do not contain any abrasive components, to clean acrylic. The packaging of such preparations must contain information that they are suitable for treating acrylic baths.

For example, you can use the following:

  • "Acrylon"
  • "Sanfor Acrylight"
  • Sif Cream.

It is important to remember that cleaning with such products should not be carried out frequently. Optimally – 1 or 2 times a week, depending on the frequency of use of the bath. Cleaning the bowl too frequently, even using specialized products, can damage the delicate coating. After each bath, it is quite enough to rinse the bowl with water and regular liquid soap, using a very soft sponge.

Applying soap to a washing glove

If the bathtub is made of artificial stone

This type of hydromassage bathtub is considered the easiest to clean, since cleaning does not require the use of any special products. Optimal care is to regularly wash the surface of the bowl with ordinary liquid soap, preferably household soap with antibacterial additives.

Some experts recommend sometimes using polishes that have a soft structure to maintain the beautiful appearance of the bathtub. If the bathtub is in disrepair, you can clean it with products designed for acrylic surfaces.

Cast iron bathtub with hydromassage

If the bath is made of cast iron or steel

If an ordinary bathtub made of such materials, coated with enamel, can be cleaned with almost any means, including those containing abrasive particles, then such procedures are not suitable for a hydromassage device, since as a result of such actions the nozzles of the bubble supply system may become clogged. For this reason, experts recommend using substances with a gel or cream structure for cleaning, as well as safe foams that do not contain solid particles and are completely soluble in water.

The use of abrasive agents is permissible only if the hydromassage system has a special device that allows the nozzles to be closed, preventing them from clogging.

How to care for your hydromassage system

Whirlpool baths require more careful maintenance than regular baths. This is explained by the fact that pathogenic microorganisms often remain in the air supply device and all parts of the system that circulates water, for which there are very favorable conditions. The optimal temperature, as well as almost constant humidity, contributes to the fact that bacteria begin to multiply quickly. This leads to the fact that people using such a bath, especially children, gradually develop certain diseases, such as asthma, various types of bronchitis, and respiratory allergies.

For this reason, it is necessary to promptly disinfect the hydromassage device and the entire surface of the bowl, especially if there is an unpleasant odor in the bathroom.

Of course, disinfection requires the right and safe product.

  • You can choose a product belonging to the professional device care series - Akrilan.
  • Mellerud can be used to carry out disinfection, eliminate unpleasant odors, and dissolve existing deposits of salts and water scale.
  • You can remove unpleasant odors, effectively get rid of bacteria and even remove mold using the “Bugs Jacuzzi” product.
  • To clean the hydromassage system specifically, you can use Triton Disinfectant.

Hot Tub Disinfectant

Disinfection procedure

Treatment can be carried out in two ways, depending on the design of the hydromassage system.

Before starting disinfection, the whirlpool bath bowl must be thoroughly washed to remove dirt and grease particles with a soft sponge and regular hard or liquid soap.

If there is an automatic cleaning function, the procedure algorithm will be as follows:

  1. It is necessary to pour water into the bath, the temperature of which is approximately 45 ° C, and the liquid should completely cover the nozzles.
  2. Next, you need to pour the detergent into a special reservoir according to the instructions and start automatic cleaning.
  3. After this, the water must be drained and the bath rinsed with clean water.
  4. Then you need to repeat the automatic cleaning procedure, but without using detergents and using cold water.
  5. After draining the liquid and rinsing the bowl, it is recommended to wipe the entire surface with a soft, dry cloth.

The second option for cleaning and disinfecting the hydromassage system is suitable for those baths that do not have an automatic cleaning function:

  1. It is necessary to pour hot water into the bath bowl in such an amount that it covers the nozzles by at least 10 cm, then add 350–400 ml of detergent disinfectant (directly to the collected water).
  2. Then you need to turn on the hydromassage system in normal mode, but setting the maximum power. The procedure time is 15 minutes.
  3. After this, the system must be turned off, but the water in the bath should be left for another 30 minutes, giving the detergent time to eliminate pathogenic microflora and existing contaminants.
  4. Next, you need to drain the solution, draw clean water and turn on the system for about 7 minutes to rinse the nozzles of the detergent.
  5. After draining the water, wipe the bowl dry with a soft cloth.

Thus, caring for hot tubs involves not only cleaning the surface of the bowl, but also disinfecting the water circulation system. These procedures should be carried out regularly, because not only the comfort, but also the health of the household depends on them.
