What and how can you quickly clean laminate flooring after repairs?
When carrying out industrial work, owners rarely think about preventing contamination from getting onto the floor, and it is not so easy to provide reliable protection to surfaces. Therefore, the question often arises of how to wash laminate flooring after repairs, how to treat the coating in order to restore its former attractiveness.
Of course, you can simply wash the laminate with clean water for several days, but stains, grains of sand, roughness and even stains will still remain (and the capricious material will begin to change over time). To achieve the desired effect, you will have to try a lot, but the end result will definitely be worth it.
Features of the preparatory stage
Even before starting repairs, you need to carry out at least a minimum of protective manipulations, which involves covering the entire floor area with polyethylene. It is better to discard the traditional option with newspapers. Not only will they not protect against construction dust or drops of various compounds, but they can also fade, covering the laminate with black stains.
After all work is completed, you must do the following:
- We carefully sweep the floor several times, removing large pieces of debris and construction dust.
- If there are dried stains of cement, paint, alabaster, plaster and other materials on the surface, carefully scrape off as much of them as possible with a small spatula. Wet the residue generously with water using a soft sponge.
- We take a broom soaked in water without detergents and carefully sweep away all particles of dirt, working from the corners to the center of the room.
Tip: The lower the quality of the laminate, the more careful you need to be when cleaning it. While expensive materials can withstand even aggressive influences, a product that is not of the highest quality can swell and change as a result of carelessly carried out wet cleaning.
- Next, wash the floor with a cloth using plenty of water. But this does not mean that puddles should remain on the surface; excess liquid should be removed immediately.
- We change the water and this time add detergent to it (profile detergent or any detergent that does not produce too much foam).
- We repeat the procedure several times, regularly changing the water.
If the laminate has not been stained by hardening industrial products, this may be sufficient. But most often it is necessary to use formulations of more intense action.
Effective means and rules for their use
Lime and gypsum dust, like other stains from building materials, are not an irreparable situation today. There are several simple but effective ways to clean the floor after renovation:
- Vegetable oil. Allows you to remove even the smallest traces of construction dust. Add a few tablespoons of vegetable oil to a bowl of clean warm water and wash the room with the resulting mixture. Then we change the container and prepare a solution of cool water and a few tablespoons of vinegar. Wash the room again and wait for the laminate to dry. After this, I wash the room again, this time with clean water.
- Salt. A universal remedy for most construction contaminants.First, wash the floor with warm water with the addition of any detergent, after which we prepare a solution of cool water and half a glass of table salt. After using the composition, wash the room with clean water.
- Potassium permanganate. Another reliable option for dealing with traces of construction dust. We dilute the pharmaceutical product in lukewarm water, the liquid should acquire a bright pink color. Spray the room with my composition, maybe even several times, and wipe the floors with clean, cool water. For cleaning light-colored laminate flooring, it is better not to use this method.
- Kerosene. It also gives good results. We take no more than half a glass of kerosene per bucket of water. I wash the coating with this composition several times until the desired result is achieved. After cleaning, treat the floor with a mixture of detergent, followed by clean water.
- Domestos and its analogues. It is important here not to overexpose the product on a sensitive surface. The active ingredient must be diluted in water strictly according to the instructions. It is recommended to re-read the label several times to make sure that the composition is not prohibited for use on laminate flooring.
- Profile tools. Today, hardware stores offer many products designed specifically for cleaning floors. They can be safely used to process laminate flooring after renovation. Exactly the same result can be expected from the use of liquids intended for cleaning glass. After this, the floor will not only be clean, but also sparkling.
- If the coating is contaminated with gypsum or lime dust, paint or asbestos, then it is better not to experiment with various solvents, but to visit a hardware store. The specialist will advise which product will best cope with the problem in which case.
It is worth considering that cleaning efficiency will increase if you use napkins or microfiber rags to treat the floor rather than ordinary cloth. They act on the laminate very gently, without leaving streaks or scratches. But it is better to avoid using washing vacuum cleaners, as well as high-power steam generators.
Rules for subsequent care of the coating
After the desired result is achieved, it is recommended to pay increased attention to the processing of the laminate for several weeks. It is strictly forbidden to use compositions with acids to clean it. Daily dry cleaning with a regular vacuum cleaner with an appropriate attachment is sufficient.
Every three days we wipe the floor with microfiber with a minimum amount of water. During every 3-4 wet cleaning, we use a specialized product. If it seems that the surface has become dull, you can add 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar to the water during wet cleaning.
If all the above recommendations did not help and stains continue to spoil the surface, you should contact a cleaning company. Experienced specialists will quickly put the coating in order.
