Proven methods for purifying vodka and alcohol at home

Few people today can celebrate without strong alcohol, but it’s difficult to buy really high-quality alcohol in a store. And more and more often the question arises - how to purify alcohol and its derivatives at home, so as not to suffer from a severe hangover or, worse, from poisoning. It is clear that it is better to reduce the amount of drinking, but this should also be of high quality. Therefore, stock up on substances that will help rid alcohol of harmful impurities, and you can begin the process.

Help from the pharmacy

Where we usually go for cold remedies or painkillers, there are several filters that can help you make alcohol of better quality at home. These are well-known and very inexpensive potassium permanganate and activated carbon. When you next go to the pharmacy for your usual set of medications, do not forget to buy any of these two ingredients. Just in case.

1. The best filter is, of course, activated carbon. Perhaps everyone knows about its absorbent properties. We often use this substance for various poisonings or simply to gently cleanse the intestines. Why not use its cleansing ability so that you don’t feel ashamed in front of your guests about the quality of the alcohol? All you need is a large piece of gauze and a lot of charcoal tablets. Grind the absorbent to a powder and wrap in several layers of gauze.The thicker the homemade filter, the better the resulting drink. Now simply pour vodka or alcohol through a layer of gauze into a clean container. Nothing complicated or expensive.
2. To purify vodka at home, you can try charcoal instead of activated carbon. The effect will be somewhat weaker, but if necessary, this method will do. Only this method is very time-consuming. Here you need to pour the cleaner into vodka, 50 g of coal per liter of liquid, and leave the drink for three weeks. Periodically, the container should be shaken a little. After the designated time has passed, the liquid must be strained well and can be consumed.
3. If you don’t have coal at home, but you urgently need to clean the intoxicating liquid at home, then you can try potassium permanganate. Everything is simple here - pour pink powder into a container with vodka, alcohol or any drink that requires cleaning - one gram of absorbent per liter of drink. Now leave the container alone for a while. After a while, you will be able to see that sediment has fallen to the bottom - these are the very harmful impurities that you needed to rid the alcoholic drink of. Now carefully pour the liquid into another container, being careful not to stir up what is at the bottom. You can safely drink the drink - it will not harm you. Of course, subject to compliance.

These are some fairly simple ways you can clean alcohol-containing drinks from fusel oils and harmful impurities at home. To do this you need to purchase a few additional ingredients. But it is quite possible to do without them.

Cleaning the house

Any apartment has a mandatory set of products, some of which can be used to purify vodka at home. Or even do without such helpers.But first things first.

1. A method that does not require any costs at all is freezing. Just put the bottle of drink in the freezer or on the balcony if it’s severely frosty outside. After a while, take out the container and drain the liquid that is not frozen. It is completely clean, and all the harmful impurities have turned into ice. In this way, you can quickly and without unnecessary labor costs purify any alcoholic drink at home. Just make sure that the bottle is strong enough, otherwise it may simply burst from the liquid expanding in the cold.
2. You can also try using milk. This is a fairly ancient cleaning method that has been proven by more than one generation. You will need the lowest fat milk you can find in the store. Pour it into vodka, alcohol or another drink that requires purification - 50 g per three liters of alcohol. The mixture must be mixed well and then tightly closed the container. After some time, sediment will fall to the bottom. The container with a mixture of intoxicating drink and milk should be kept for about a week in a dark place, shaking occasionally. After the allotted time has expired, strain the drink through several layers of gauze. Yes, the process is not fast, but at the end you will get crystal clear vodka with an amazingly mild taste.
3. An interesting way to clean at home is eggs. More precisely, you will need fresh whites - 4 pcs. per liter of drink. Separate them from the yolks, beat them a little and pour them into the liquid. Stir the mixture well and leave to infuse for 10 hours. The alcohol-containing drink should be shaken periodically. Then just strain well and you can start tasting.
4. There is another way to cleanse strong drinks - rye bread. But it is better to use it as an addition to any other method, since this option itself does not guarantee perfect cleaning. This is more of a final touch, allowing you to easily remove impurities and add an interesting flavor to vodka. After you have used, for example, milk, drained the vodka, put a few pieces of bread in it and leave for a couple of hours. Then simply remove the baked goods and strain the drink again to remove any crumbs.
5. You can also try vegetable oil. To do this, pour the vodka into a spacious container and add oil to it - 20 ml per liter of strong drink. Close the container and start shaking well. This will have to be done for at least five minutes. Now place it and wait until an oil stain forms on the surface - this is where all the impurities are located. Now you need to insert the straw into the vodka and simply carefully pour the drink into a clean bottle. Just don’t get carried away, leave a small sediment at the bottom. It contains all the harmful things that you tried to get rid of; you don’t need them at all.

Now you have several accessible, inexpensive and very simple methods that allow you to both purify vodka at home and give it a new flavor. If you take care of this in advance, then by the time you plan a holiday or some kind of gathering, there will be only good drinks on your table that will not harm your health.

What else can you do?

In addition to ridding vodka, alcohol or moonshine of all impurities at home, you can slightly improve the taste and aroma of the drinks. Your guests will definitely love what you offer them.

For example, after cleaning, you can crumble 50–70 grams of violet root into the liquid and add some raisins.It is enough to leave the container in this form overnight, and in the morning you will have a drink with a subtle pleasant aroma and an interesting taste. You can also add honey, various aromatic herbs, orange and lemon peels, cinnamon sticks and the like to alcohol.
