How and how to quickly remove glue from a sticker from a plastic surface?
Many sticker manufacturers use fixing compounds with increased resistance to external influences in the technological process. Therefore, removing glue from stickers from plastic is not as easy as many people think. Boiling water alone is not enough; moreover, this aggressive agent often negatively affects the quality of the plastic.
It is best to initially remove all traces of the label along with the substances that make up the sticky layer. If at first there were attempts to remove the sticker itself mechanically, as a result of which the paper came off and the glue was firmly fixed on the surface, completely different means must be used.
Techniques that will help remove stickers from plastic without leaving marks
Regardless of what product you decide to use to remove the offending sticker and clean adhesive, it must first be tested on an inconspicuous part of the product. Otherwise, you will have to put a lot of effort into scrubbing it off the plastic or restoring the damaged coating.
To remove all traces of the label in one go, you must proceed according to the following scheme:
- We try to pry off the sticker with a fingernail or a sharp object; if the paper comes off easily, then remove it and then work on the adhesive backing. If the product fails, then immediately move on to the next stage; do not try to remove pieces of coating as much as possible.
- We direct a stream of hot air from a hairdryer onto the piece of paper and wait for half a minute.Once again we try to remove the object from the surface of the plastic. We do 2-3 approaches, if there is no progress, move on to another method.
- We thoroughly blot the sticker with vegetable oil and leave it for a day, periodically updating the composition. The product will be absorbed into the material and weaken the glue, after which the paper will easily come off, along with the sticky layer.
- The use of varnish thinner gives good results. We apply it to the interfering label so that the paper is well saturated, and after 10 minutes we try to remove the product.
- To erase particularly stubborn formations, you can try alcohol lotions or nail polish remover. The main thing is to thoroughly saturate the sticker, then removing it will not be difficult.
- One of the most effective, yet safe options is to use wet wipes with disinfectant properties. We simply cover the problem area with several products at once and try to saturate the paper. Every 10 minutes we try to clean the surface, if necessary, add napkins.
Tip: When using the napkin option, it is recommended to first sprinkle the sticker with fine salt. Then the glue will not curl and will come away from the plastic without any problems.
- When working with a very delicate or colored surface, it is best to first try simply rubbing the sticker off with a clean eraser. You can only use the softest side! Eraser marks can be easily removed with a soft cloth soaked in soapy water.
All of the above products are highly effective and allow you to remove the label without leaving a trace without causing damage to the plastic surface.
Means that can be used to remove sticker adhesive from a plastic item
If after such actions there is glue left on the surface of the material, then you can try to remove it using one of the following products:
- The remainder of the composition is qualitatively dissolved by peanut oil. Apply the product directly to sticky marks and wash off with soap and water after a few minutes. If necessary, repeat the approach several times.
- To wash off the glue pellets, prepare a paste of baking soda and lukewarm water. Apply the product to the problem area, lightly rub the surface, wait a few minutes and wash off the mixture along with the sticky substance.
- A strong and unyielding adhesive will help remove 90% isopropyl alcohol. Apply the composition to the fabric and remove the glue stains for several minutes, renewing the liquid if necessary.
- As a last resort, you can try specialized industrial degreasers. But they are recommended to be used only in small areas, because... they are able to change the color and even texture of the plastic. Immediately after processing, the material should be thoroughly washed with soap and water.
- If the glue is in a very thin layer, then it can be exposed to a nail polish remover that contains acetone. The product should be applied evenly to the problem area, and after 5 minutes, rub it with soft circular movements.
It will be much easier to remove the composition if you take into account the following recommendations:
- In some cases, it is possible to use a toothbrush instead of a rag or sponge; this tool removes the smallest particles of glue.
- The adhesive layer will come off faster if, between approaches using chemical reagents, the composition is exposed to hot steam or warm air from a hairdryer.
- You shouldn’t give up mechanical influence either. If the glue layer is very thick, then a significant part of it must first be removed with a razor.
After the desired result is achieved, the treated surface must be thoroughly dried. The area will need to be checked for any accumulated dust within a few days after treatment. If a particular area becomes dirty quickly, this indicates that the sticky layer has not been completely removed. In this case, you need to re-apply one of the selected methods.
Thank you! It helped a lot!
Nonsense, only the plastic bottle got spoiled, stains appeared, and the glue smeared into an even thinner layer, fingers stuck, threw it away
Acetone will ruin the plastic, but alcohol doesn’t always help.
Acetone and gasoline only make things worse.
I just read the tips. Then he took a cloth moistened with gasoline and immediately removed the sticky mass from the label from the plastic without any damage!!!
There is glue that can be easily wiped off with alcohol or acetone, there is glue that floats and smears the thing, and there is glue that is completely impossible to deal with - it sits rooted to the spot neither here nor there and the stickiness remains.
Using vegetable oil, we were able to remove any remaining glue from a transparent plastic container.
The alcohol did a great job of removing any remaining glue from the sticker. My wife also scrubs it with sunflower oil, but I don’t like it, it makes my hands slippery.
