How to properly and carefully bleach a white shirt at home?
How to bleach a white shirt by removing all stains at home? Read on for proven tips, secrets, and tricks for manual whitening.
General shirt bleaching
- Hydrogen peroxide.Good old peroxide has saved more than one shirt. For washing, just prepare two liters of water at room temperature and pour a teaspoon of peroxide into it. If you are afraid that the item will turn yellow, you can add 5 grams of soda with calcium to the solution. Mix the resulting mixture well and leave your shirt in it for about twenty minutes, periodically shaking the solution.
Advice
This “recipe” is designed for bleaching shirts made from synthetic fabrics. If your shirt is made of natural textiles, such as cotton, then the water temperature can even be increased, although the soaking time will have to be halved.
- Hydroperite.
By the way, hydroperite can be a substitute for hydrogen peroxide at home. It is available in tablets that must be dissolved in water (9 pieces per 10 liters). Further soaking occurs in the same way as in the case of peroxide. - Ammonia.
A modified version of soaking with peroxide is “peroxide + ammonia” bleaching. Indeed, ammonia not only perfectly revives, but also removes dirt - even from suede or nubuck. Alcohol will cope with a white shirt with a bang - for this you just need to combine five liters of warm water, a tablespoon of peroxide and the same amount of ammonia. Please note: the shirt must be pre-washed before soaking. Leave the white shirt in the water for half an hour - the reaction will go away on its own, while you can go about your business or ventilate the room from the pungent smell of ammonia.
- Boiling.
Another bleaching option familiar to our mothers and grandmothers is boiling. True, it is only suitable for cotton, which will not shrink. First, take a shirt and rub laundry soap onto the stains. Make sure that you always have high quality laundry soap in your house (72%), which will not leave yellow stains on things. Wait until the soap is absorbed into the fibers of the fabric (20-30 minutes) and start boiling: take a pan of water, add washing powder to it, bring the water to a boil and throw the shirt in there for half an hour. It is recommended to periodically stir the item in the water. - Salt.
But table salt will help bleach synthetics. This method is, of course, suitable for products with a low level of contamination. Take water and dissolve salt in it in a ratio of 40 grams per 4 liters of hot water. Wait until the water cools down, otherwise you risk getting the item one size smaller after soaking! Place the shirt in warm water (about 40 degrees) and leave for two hours. After soaking, rinse the item thoroughly!
So, we have looked at various ways to generally whiten shirts at home. What about isolated spots? Is there really no escape from them? Don't worry, our ancestors came up with everything long before us.
Fighting stains
- Ball pen
The most common and familiar problem for office workers, students and schoolchildren is marks from a ballpoint pen.One awkward move and the snow-white shirt would seem to be ruined forever. However, a relatively fresh stain or streak can be removed with cologne. Spray, or even better, pour cologne onto the dirt, leave it for a couple of minutes, and then wash the area with laundry soap. If you don't succeed the first time, try again.
- Chocolate
Another danger awaits us during the lunch break. How to remove a chocolate stain? There is one unusual but effective tip: mix 100 grams of liquid soap and 20 grams of flour in hot water. Keep the item in this composition for at least twenty minutes, and then wash in cold water. Of course, this method is only suitable for shirts that will not shrink.
- Wine and food
White shirts are an attribute not only of the work dress code, but also of the evening dress code. Therefore, they often fly into the trash can or tear into rags due to a wine or food stain. Next time, try covering the stain with salt, wait a little and soak the shirt in the solution with ammonia, the recipe for which is described above. But old wine stains should first be soaked in hot milk.
- Fatty food
Evening events are rarely complete without fried food. The greasy stains it leaves on clothes are very difficult to remove at home. They need to be wiped with a solution of ammonia and water (one to two), and then washed in warm water.
Advice
You can also use turpentine, although its smell is also not pleasant.
Good ways to remove stains. I took the chocolate out of my son's T-shirt. And wine from your white blouse. Thanks to the author.
