Thanks to the advent of dry cleaners and the availability of professional services, the question of how to wash a camel blanket should be closed. Manufacturers of such products made from natural wool do not recommend washing them at all, even if household items are used regularly. There are several rules for caring for specific items. If you take them into account, you can use the blanket for a very long time without subjecting it to any type of aggressive treatment.

  1. Despite the attractive appearance of the product, if it is used frequently, it is recommended to wrap it in a duvet cover or an original textile cover.
  2. Household items should be regularly ventilated in the fresh air, but this can only be done in dry weather.
  3. Camel wool blankets should be stored in special cotton bags.
  4. If a stain appears on the surface of the item, then before washing the entire massive item, you should try to remove the stain by local exposure to a neutral or specialized detergent.

Cleaning a wool blanket in a washing machine is only allowed as a last resort. If possible, it is recommended to do manual processing.

How to properly wash a camel wool blanket by hand?

Even this type of exposure, if used frequently, can negatively affect the condition of a camel wool blanket. To reduce risks, manipulation should be carried out strictly according to the following scheme:

  • Pour warm water into the bath; its temperature should not exceed 30ºC. We dissolve the gel products in the liquid, but whipping the water until foam appears is not necessary.

Advice: It is not recommended to use powder when washing natural wool of any origin. Considering the fact that active mechanical action negatively affects the condition of the fibers, it will not be possible to completely rinse out the particles of the dry product.

  • Soak the blanket in the prepared liquid for several hours. During the soaking process, you can only carefully turn it over without squeezing, squeezing or twisting.
  • Next, drain the water and wait until the liquid drains from the object. It is prohibited to remove the blanket from the bath! Again pour water at the same temperature, but this time without powder. Turn the material over slightly and after a few minutes drain the liquid.
  • Then we gently wring out the wool and send it to dry. The drying process should take place in a ventilated area on a horizontal surface.

In addition, the product can be dry washed. For this purpose, special products based on lanolin are used. They are diluted in cool water according to the instructions and whipped to a thick foam. Foam is applied to the surface of the blanket and the material is cleaned. The main thing is not to apply liquid to the object, as it may leave stains and deform the fibers.

Can a camel blanket be washed in a washing machine?

Despite the fact that manufacturers of camel wool blankets answer this question in the negative, experienced housewives say that it is possible. You will have to act at your own peril and risk, but there are several points that will reduce the degree of negativity to a minimum when running products in the washing machine:

  • You can only use the profile mode – “Wool”. Even delicate or manual handling can ruin the appearance of an item. The temperature is not higher than 30ºС, even 40ºС in this case can become critical.
  • The detergent is taken in a minimal amount; the best option would be liquid powder with enzymes.
  • It’s best to turn off the spin altogether, otherwise the blanket may turn into a shapeless rag.
  • Conditioners and softeners are not needed, bleaches and color fixers are prohibited. If an object emits an unpleasant odor, it is better to ventilate it thoroughly and, as a last resort, soak it in a weak vinegar solution.
  • Rinsing in the washing machine should be done no more than once. If it seems that there are traces of detergent left on the material, you can further process it in the bath manually.

The main inconvenience of using the machine approach is that this way you can only wash a small blanket, for example, a child’s blanket.A large object simply will not fit into the drum or will cause it to stop after getting wet. In some cases, it is better not to take risks and carry out all the necessary manipulations manually.

If the shape of the product has changed during processing, it is almost impossible to restore it. Attempts to influence the material with hot water in order to shrink it are strictly prohibited. Such approaches will only further ruin the appearance of the blanket, further reducing its level of functionality.
