How can you wash a synthetic blanket in a washing machine and what to do next?

Before washing a padding polyester blanket in a washing machine, many housewives think about the correctness of this approach. It seems to them that such a light and delicate filler will not withstand such aggressive influence. Practice shows that the processing of today's popular hypoallergenic material should be carried out in an automatic machine, especially if the product is supplemented with covers made of soft calico or artificial satin. The manipulation itself is simple; you just need to take into account a number of specific points.

Is it even possible to wash a synthetic blanket in an automatic washing machine?

Can! Need to! And even preferable. Nonwoven raw materials do not suffer at all during intensive processing. Machine washing has absolutely no negative effect on its texture. If desired, it is even possible to use high speeds; the material will not lose its functional features and tactile properties. The main thing to remember is the following points:

  • First of all, read the tag on the product with instructions for cleaning it. If there is none, then we proceed according to the standard scheme.

Advice: You should not purchase a blanket whose tag says that it is prohibited from machine washing, but instead recommends using dry cleaning services. Most likely, the filler is not padding polyester at all, but its less perfect analogue.

  • When choosing a detergent, it is better to give preference to gel powders with enzymes. They will help to wash the product efficiently and will not settle between its non-woven fibers.
  • If the weight of the product allows, then before putting it in the washing machine you need to wet it (in extreme cases, we do this in the drum itself). If you ignore this point, the filler may become filled with bubbles, which will not allow you to clean the material well.

  • Before you start washing, you need to make sure the cover is intact. Otherwise, the material may fluff up, clog the filters, and wear out in certain areas.
  • Spinning the padding polyester won't hurt, but it's better to turn off the drying.

When the washing is finished, take out the blanket, spread it on a horizontal surface and dry it, regularly turning it over and shaking it lightly.

At what temperature is it best to wash synthetic padding?

Regardless of what type of exposure is chosen, the water temperature should not exceed 40ºC. On the one hand, this is more than enough to start the enzymes to work; on the other hand, the texture of the filler will not be affected or changed. Considering the fact that soft and temperature-sensitive fabrics are used to sew covers for padding polyester blankets, this approach will also prevent their rapid wear.

If you use a higher temperature, the enzyme gel products will lose their cleansing properties almost completely. You will have to use powders, and they are almost never completely washed out of the filler. As a result, the blanket acquires a strong odor, begins to irritate the skin and can even provoke allergies.

Important specific points for cleaning a padding polyester blanket

If the option of using a washing machine to clean a synthetic winterizer blanket is not suitable for some reason, then you can try other options. True, it is necessary to prepare in advance for possible difficulties:

  1. Washing by hand is a difficult, troublesome and thankless task. Once wet, the product will become almost impossible to lift; it will even be difficult to turn it over to wash it, not to mention the fact that it will simply not be possible to rinse and wring it out on your own.
  2. If you still decide to wash the padding polyester by hand, then you need to place it in water at room temperature, add a little liquid detergent and leave for a quarter of an hour. You should not use brushes or manual processing; it is better to simply stomp on the product with your feet.
  3. Dry cleaning of such blankets is not carried out at home. In order to achieve complete removal of reagents from the filler after processing, special equipment is required. Therefore, if it is impossible to use the washing machine, it is better to immediately contact a dry cleaner, where everything will be done quickly and efficiently.

If, over time, a padded blanket begins to emit an unpleasant odor that does not disappear even after washing with conditioner, this may indicate a buildup of chemicals between the fibers. In this case, removing the cover in order to carefully work through all the areas manually is too problematic, and not always effective. Sintepon products are quite inexpensive, so it is better not to experiment and simply replace a household item.
