Can adult and children's jeans be washed with conditioner?
In fact, you can wash denim with conditioner if it is “classic”, without impregnation. In this case, the rinse aid will retain color, add a pleasant aroma, make ironing easier and give the material many other properties. It’s a pity that it’s not suitable for all jeans and can sometimes cause harm.
What jeans don't like air conditioning?
Classic jeans are made of cotton material; they are rough, dense, and hold their shape well. Rinsing in emollients will certainly not harm such things. But they have recently become rare. Often there are additional fibers in the fabric, which are damaged by rinse aids.
What materials cannot be washed with conditioner?
- Fabrics with elastane. This material is often present in jeans and provides stretching and stretch effect. Molecules of the rinse aid clog the fibers, they lose their properties - things stop shrinking and do not take their original shape and size.
- Impregnated fabrics (moisture-resistant, fire-resistant). The conditioner dissolves the compounds used, and the item loses its properties faster.
- Insulated jeans with brushed fleece. Terry and fleecy fabrics are smoothed out, covered with a protective layer, stop absorbing moisture and sweat, and their thermal insulation properties are reduced.
The surest way to avoid mistakes when washing is to look at the sewn-in or attached label. Usually it indicates not only the names of the fibers, but also their ratio.We don’t take into account cheap Chinese clothes, whose label data often does not correspond to the materials.
Why wash jeans with conditioner?
Some people, especially the older generation, consider using air conditioners to be a waste of money and time. Actually this is not true. The product improves the appearance and quality of the fabric. If it is invented, then why not use it?
What does air conditioning do?
- Makes the material softer.
- Makes ironing easier.
- Refreshes color.
- Improves aroma.
Rinsing with additives increases wear resistance, the item lasts longer, looks better, and retains its shape. The conditioner smooths out small fluff that was previously ruffled and raised by the detergent. Thanks to this, the item gets dirty less, the number of washes is reduced, and the jeans do not fray when rubbed.
Fabric softeners are not that new. Additives have been used for rinsing before, but they were of natural origin: vinegar solution, infusions of citrus peels, herbal decoctions.
Features of hand and machine washing of denim
If jeans are washed in a machine, conditioner is added to a special compartment. The required amount should be found in the instructions on the product packaging.
There are no tricks. It’s just important not to mix it up and not to add detergent to the washing powder compartment. In this case, when the drum rotates and the water is changed multiple times, the conditioner will simply go down the drain and will not affect the material.
If washing is carried out manually in a basin, then powder or soap is dissolved in the first water, and in the second water you need to rinse the jeans from the detergent (this step is often skipped). And only then immerse the wrung out and rinsed jeans in a solution with conditioner.You can leave it for a while to soak the fabric. After this, squeeze, shake, and send to dry.
A few words about children's jeans
Children's clothing made of denim and rough denim not only can, but also should be washed with softening agents: they will improve tactile sensations, things will not rub the child's delicate skin. Another issue is the choice of chemistry. You should not use conditioner for adult clothes with various (even pleasant) fragrances.
What to pay attention to:
- you need to choose a product for children's clothing;
- it should not have a strong fragrance;
- The packaging should be marked “hypoallergenic”.
It is also recommended to give preference to products without dyes in their composition - they are usually transparent or milky in color.
Do no harm!
The conditioner requires compliance with the dosage. It’s like with hair balm: if you apply a little, there is no effect; if you apply a lot, you end up with tow instead of luxurious and well-groomed hair. Clogged fabric gets dirty faster, becomes stiff, the skin in such jeans sweats, does not breathe, and the material chafes.
You should also be careful about concentrates. They are added to the machine or to the basin for rinsing jeans (and other clothes) in much smaller quantities, are consumed economically, and do not require prior dilution with water. You should not pour a standard cap; usually you need four times less concentrate.
So, not all jeans should be washed with conditioner: this product can harm some fabrics. Look at the composition on the label and choose a washing method depending on the composition.
