Bad advice: can sneakers be washed in the dishwasher?

Craftsmen claim that you can wash sneakers in the dishwasher. This method seems strange, but is actually very convenient.

What dishwashers can you wash in?

Not every dishwasher is suitable for washing. Make sure your model has:

low temperature mode;
drying without heating;
filters on the drainage system.

If the drying mode is turned off, this is an ideal option, because shoes that dry on their own will last longer.

Preparing for washing

In order not to damage household appliances and sneakers, you need to follow simple rules:

Before loading the shoes into the dishwasher, use a brush to remove any adhering dirt, blades of grass, or sand.
To prevent the drain from getting clogged, you need to remove the insoles (if they are removable), inserts and unlace the sneakers - you will wash all this separately.
Place the sneakers in the dishwasher with the soles facing up. This will help to thoroughly clean them from the inside.

There is no need to load dishes, children's toys, etc. along with shoes, because no one has canceled the rules of hygiene.

How to wash sneakers?

Add detergent in the usual amount for a dishwasher. But keep in mind: the more alkali the detergent contains, the more it will damage shoes, especially leather ones. After the aggressive action of an alkaline environment, the sneakers will dry out and become completely unusable.

We set the minimum temperature - ideally 30–40 ^OC – and turn on the wash.

What should you do after washing your shoes?

Remove the dishwasher filter and clean it, then put it back in place.
Run the dishwasher on a wash cycle with the dishwasher empty to rinse and sanitize it.

Take out your sneakers and wipe them down. In some cases, the dishwasher may leave stains from the detergent, as well as stuck debris - they can only be removed manually.

Some housewives, in order to avoid streaks on the dishes, add a slice of lemon when adding it, always with the peel. This advice is also suitable for washing sneakers.

Remember that only high-quality shoes can be washed in the dishwasher. It is unlikely that sneakers from a dubious manufacturer will survive such a procedure. The dishwasher, of course, will wash away all the dirt, but it will also dissolve bad shoe glue. Shoes will have to be taken out piece by piece.

This kind of washing is contraindicated for shoes, but rubber shoes - boots, slippers, flip-flops - will easily tolerate it. After such a bath, they will look like new. A dishwasher can save the housewife a lot of time if you approach the matter with imagination.
