How to properly clean ugg boots at home?
Uggs are practical, warm and comfortable shoes made from natural sheepskin. But you often have to think about how to clean ugg boots at home and restore their beautiful appearance, because they are very easy to get dirty. If you want to keep these boots in good condition for as long as possible, take care of proper and timely cleaning.
What do you need for wet cleaning?
- Suede brush.
- Sheepskin cleaner (designed specifically for cleaning UGG boots) or suede shoe cleaner, which can be purchased at almost any shoe store.
- A sponge or soft cloth, such as cotton.
- Paper or paper towels for drying.
- Water.
Comprehensive cleaning
To avoid smearing dirt on the surface, let your UGG boots dry before cleaning. Then run a suede brush over them several times. This way you can remove dust and large particles of dirt. If there are streaks or stains on the shoes, you will have to resort to wet cleaning.
First, lightly dampen the surface of the shoe, but do not wet it too much. This can be done with a sponge or cotton napkin soaked in plain water and well wrung out. To clean your UGG boots, apply a little cleaner to a sponge and spread it over the surface of the boots. Do this by moving from top to bottom and not skipping any sections. Pay special attention to the heel and toe area; these are the places where UGG boots get especially dirty. To avoid streaks, rinse and wring out the sponge as it gets dirty.
Advice
Delicate pile is very easy to damage. Therefore, when cleaning at home, it is not recommended to press hard on the surface, use a wire brush or sandpaper.
If you have thoroughly wiped the surface of the boots with cleaning agent, you can proceed to the final stage. Take a clean cloth, dampen it with cold water and use it to remove the product. If you cannot remove any remaining cleaning agent with a cloth, rinse it off with cold running water. But try to keep your shoes under the stream for as little time as possible, UGGs “don’t like” getting very wet.
How to eliminate certain types of pollution?
- Drops of fat and oil can be removed using regular chalk, starch or talc. Rub the chalk into the stain and leave the boots like this for several hours (preferably overnight) away from heat sources. Then brush off the chalk and use a suede brush if necessary.
- In urban environments, salt stains and stains often remain on the surface of shoes. How to clean ugg boots in this case? First, wipe the dirty areas with an eraser and then with a damp cloth. You can also use a solution of 3% vinegar and ammonia in a 1:1 ratio.
- To remove water stains, rub the stained area onto a clean surface of your ugg boots. The stain should disappear.
- Uggs quickly absorb odors, especially if they are made of non-natural materials. To get rid of unpleasant odors at home, pour a tablespoon of baking soda into each boot and spread it over the inner surface. Leave the baking soda overnight and shake it out in the morning.
Washing in a washing machine
Many people are concerned about whether ugg boots can be washed in a washing machine. Manufacturers do not recommend doing this. You can ruin your boots, so you should resort to washing only in extreme cases. To reduce the risk of damage to your boots, use a special net for shoes or delicate items. If you don’t have such a net on hand, you can replace it with a regular pillowcase tied in a tight knot.
Advice
If you want to wash colored UGG boots in the washing machine, first check the color fastness. To do this, wipe a small area with a wet white towel. If it is stained, then after each wash the boots will turn pale. UGG boots with embroidery, rhinestones and stones cannot be washed in a machine at all; only hand cleaning is suitable for them.
To wash your shoes, leave them in the machine, set the “Wool” or “Delicates” mode and the temperature to 30-40 degrees. It is not recommended to wash ugg boots with regular powder. Instead, use a special product for wool (or delicate fabrics). There is no need to set the spin mode in the washing machine. Just gently wring out the ugg boots with your hands and dry them as described below.
Drying shoes
Do not dry your ugg boots with a hairdryer, under the sun, or in close proximity to a radiator, heater or other heat sources. They should dry naturally, this will take 1-2 days. To keep your ugg boots from losing their shape after getting wet and drying faster, fill them with clean newsprint (printing ink from regular newspaper can transfer to damp fabric) or paper towels. To speed up the process, it is recommended to add silica gel (moisture-absorbing) bags to each boot. At the final stage, you can use a shoe dryer.
Once the boots are dry, you can use the suede brush again. It will help remove pellets and “lay” the pile. It is recommended to apply a special dirt- and water-repellent spray or a simple protective spray for suede. This will help keep your ugg boots clean longer and will allow you to resort to cleaning them much less often.
