How can you quickly and efficiently iron a coat at home?

The coat has been one of the most popular types of outerwear among women and men for many years, but today, like many years ago, housewives have questions related to restoring the shape of the product. Before ironing your coat, you need to determine the type of material from which it is made.

If it is suede, velor or leather, you need to act in accordance with the specifics of the raw material. But most often this item of clothing is made from natural wool, which greatly simplifies the process of exposure; the main thing is not to forget about important nuances and additional manipulations.

Recommendations for preparing material for ironing and specific aspects of the process

At home, caring for such capricious items as a coat can cause a lot of trouble. The occurrence of most problems characteristic of the ironing stage can be prevented by following these recommendations:

  1. When washing a product, there is no need to rub it; it is better to gently wrinkle the fabric with your hands, turning it over in a basin. When machine washing, use a washing bag to prevent deep wrinkles.
  2. You cannot twist or wring out the coat. It’s better to just hang it up so that the liquid drains on its own.
  3. The ironing process can be significantly simplified if you use conditioner during washing. When processed manually, it can be a hair conditioning product.
  4. Many housewives make the same mistake when ironing a woolen coat - they set the temperature too high. This will not speed up the process of smoothing out wrinkles, but will increase the risk of scorching. To obtain an optimal result, you need to use a special mode or an indicator not higher than 100ºС.
  5. Before ironing the coat, it needs to be dried, but not completely dried. It is almost impossible to smooth out wrinkles in completely dry wool.
  6. After ironing is completed, the product should lie for a while until completely cooled. Only after this can it be hung on hangers or put on.

If, during or after ironing, small dirt is found on the surface of the material, you should not completely repeat the entire processing cycle of the garment. It is better to choose a suitable stain remover and carry out local cleaning.

Wool coat ironing technology

Ironing a wool coat is not at all difficult; the main thing is to strictly follow the sequence of manipulations and not experiment during the process:

pouring water into the iron

  • Processing begins from the wrong side. If the product is thin and damp enough, then such ironing may be enough to restore the ideal texture of the fabric.
  • To do this, you need to align the lining and the main material, turn out the pockets. We iron all the elements well, return them to their original position and process them again. Then we move on to the sleeves and also process them, turning them inside out.

Tip: To give the material the desired look without consequences, you need to stock up on paper napkins or products for cleaning office equipment.Even before starting work or already during the ironing process, they should be used to clean the soleplate of the iron; this will significantly reduce the risk of scorch marks on the wool.

  • We pay special attention to the seams. If you do not iron the fabric in these areas, the end result will be far from ideal.
  • The lapels and collar need to be steamed. As a last resort, wet gauze is used for this.
  • After pre-treatment, we evaluate the appearance of the coat and, if necessary, repeat all the same manipulations on the front side. Here, a layer of wet gauze is mandatory.
  • We proceed in the following order: sleeves, back, lapels and fronts, collar and shoulders. At the end, you need to use the tip of the iron to iron all the seams again.
  • During the ironing process, you only need to move in one direction. If the pile is long, then in the direction of its location; if it is short, then from bottom to top.
