I don’t throw away trays of chicken eggs, but freeze them in them...

My family says that I am a master at finding useful uses for seemingly unnecessary things. This is how I don’t throw away chicken egg trays, but freeze homemade semi-finished products in them. It's actually very convenient. Many friends have already “stole” my idea.

The second life of egg trays

The idea of using egg trays for household purposes is not new. I know that many people grow onions on the windowsill and plant seeds. I decided to test the trays as molds. It turned out that they are very convenient for freezing food in portions.

Before reuse, chicken egg trays should be thoroughly washed with warm water and soda. This is necessary in order to protect yourself from salmonellosis. Of course, during cooking, semi-finished products will undergo heat treatment, during which salmonella die. But I prefer to play it safe once again and do everything “wisely.”

What do I freeze?

You can freeze anything in small portions in trays - from ice to meatballs and greens.

A friend makes tea preparations this way. She mixes lemon with ginger, adds 1 teaspoon of water, and then simply throws the ice cube into boiling water. A few minutes and the aromatic drink is ready.

I prefer to use trays for freezing meatballs, cutlets, greens and broken eggs. You can fill the molds with any product you like. By the way, it is not necessary to store the workpieces in trays. They are quite bulky and take up a lot of space in the freezer.

Cover the tray with cling film or a bag, and only then freeze the food. After a few hours, remove the egg packaging. The food will freeze and retain its shape. All you have to do is tie the bag.

Meatballs

I envy the housewives who deftly roll meat balls. And my meatballs try to stick to my hands. Therefore, I consider chicken egg trays a real salvation.

Meatballs in an egg tray

I freeze the preparations as follows:

  1. I mince the meat, add onion, salt, pepper, egg and mix everything.
  2. I cover the egg packaging with cling film.
  3. I fill the cells of the tray to a depth of approximately 2 cm.
  4. I compact it with a spoon.
  5. I cover the meatballs with film and put them in the freezer for 3 hours.
  6. I take out the egg carton and put the balls in a bag.

It turns out fast and practical. I don't get my hands dirty and the meatballs come out nice and neat. Some may find them a bit large, but my family likes them even better. We really love soup with meatballs - both meat and fish.

Mini cutlets on a plate

Cutlets and meatballs

Just like meatballs, you can freeze small homemade meatballs and cutlets. But this time you need to fill the tray cells to the limit. The cutlets are the same size, smooth and appetizing. What I like best is to steam them or bake them in the oven.

Roast and greens

If you, like me, don’t like to stand at the stove for a long time, I recommend using chicken egg trays to freeze fresh herbs and fry them for soup.

I proceed as follows:

  1. I prepare a large amount of frying.
  2. I fill the tray cells covered with film.
  3. I add a little boiled water so that the mass does not crumble when frozen.
  4. I freeze the preparations for 3 hours.

I do the same with parsley and dill. For 2 liters of soup, one “cube” of roasting and herbs is enough for me. This is how I cook quickly and tasty.

broken egg

broken eggs

Beating eggs means baking. That's what they say in our family. But you don’t always have time to bake something right away. In this case, it is better to freeze the egg mass. And here we also need egg trays:

  1. Separate the yolks from the whites. I use a plastic bottle: I hold it up, squeeze it, and the yolk lazily crawls inside.
  2. Mix the yolks with a pinch of sugar so that they freeze well and are not viscous.
  3. Pour into cells.
  4. You don't need to add anything to the whites. We just pour them out.
  5. Leave in the freezer for 3 hours.
  6. We remove the packaging.

Freezing broken eggs in a tray
Frozen eggs can be stored for 2 months. Of course, you should not eat them fried or boiled; they will be tasteless. I make pies, pies, cakes and creams with them.

You can freeze more than just food in egg trays. About once a month I make rejuvenating ice - I pour cucumber juice into the cells and every morning I wipe my face and décolleté with the ice. My girlfriends and I really like the idea of using egg trays. I hope it will be useful to you too!
