How and with what can you wash products made from bio-down?

The modern textile industry is increasingly using synthetic fabrics and fillers instead of the usual leather and fur. Bio fluff has won a special place in the list of such materials. This lightweight and soft insulation is used for stuffing down jackets, winter trousers and other types of warm clothing.

Unfortunately, many owners of practical and convenient products forget that the artificial component requires rather specific care. Only if you properly clean capricious items and set the correct parameters when processing them in a washing machine, can you count on the long service life of the item and maintaining its attractiveness.

How to properly wash bio-down clothes in a washing machine?

Washing products made from bio-down in a machine is quite acceptable, but only if basic recommendations are followed, the material will not deform, will remain safe and hypoallergenic, will retain its volume and will retain heat just as effectively.

Even a voluminous down jacket will not suffer during processing if you remember the following points:

  1. The washing mode can only be manual or delicate, and the temperature should not exceed 40ºC.
  2. It is better to turn off the spin altogether, or set the indicator at 600 rpm.
  3. If you plan to use conditioner, the down will have to be rinsed additionally.
  4. It is better to avoid dry powder as the main detergent. At this temperature, washing with liquid or gel products will give the best results. And such problems as the appearance of plaque or stains can be avoided.
  5. Bio fluff must not be pre-soaked! Even a short stay in stagnant water will negatively affect the artificial composition. If there is serious contamination on the surface of the product, it is necessary to carry out additional local cleaning using specialized stain removers or laundry soap.

Considering the fact that household items and clothing filled with bio-down are used very actively by consumers, cleaning will have to be done quite often. Machine washing is not the only option; manual exposure to artificial filler can be no less effective, but a safer alternative.

Rules for hand washing

Hand washing can be used not only if frequent processing of products is necessary. Sometimes this is the only option for influencing a bio-product, for example, if the item is so large that it does not fit into the drum. In this case, you need to proceed according to the following scheme:

  • In a bath of warm water, dilute liquid washing powder or gel. The temperature of the liquid should initially be no more than 40ºС, despite the fact that it will cool quite quickly. Violation of this rule can lead to the destruction of beneficial enzymes and a decrease in the quality of the final result.
  • First, you need to beat the item well with your hands so that the fluff becomes looser. Place the product in water and gently whisk it again, achieving uniform wetting.
  • Without waiting, we immediately begin processing the contaminants.Usually, additional use of soap solutions or stain removers is not required; the brush and detergent work well on even the most stubborn stains.

Tip: It is highly recommended not to squeeze the artificial down with your hands while cleaning. This will cause it to gather into clumps, which will be difficult to break in the future. On the contrary, it is better to constantly shake the thing, moving from one area to another.

  • After the desired result is achieved, drain the water and place the clean object on a special stand or hang it so that the soapy water drains away.
  • Having got rid of the main moisture, we rinse the product several times, allowing the liquid to drain freely after each approach.

All that remains is to dry the item and return it to its original shape. If the cleaning procedure does not give the desired result, you can try washing the item in a machine or taking it to the dry cleaner.

Features of filler care

You need to dry the bio fluff on a horizontal surface, placing material with good absorbent properties under the product. The substrate will have to be changed several times as it gets wet, otherwise the moisture will return to the filler. In addition, the item must be regularly turned over, straightened, slightly shaken and even vigorously beaten.

Few people know that such fluff is not afraid of iron. You just need to set the device to the appropriate mode for the type of outer fabric and iron all accessible surfaces. As a last resort, you can get by with steaming; this will also not harm the filler and will not reduce its level of functionality.

Particular attention should be paid to the process of packaging and storing items made from bio-down, in particular after washing. The use of vacuum bags is strictly prohibited; this can lead to deformation of the filler, which is difficult even for professionals to deal with. It’s also not worth rolling up or chipping such items. It’s better to just hang them in the closet, after straightening out all the creases and folds. It is better not to create pressure on the filler.

Despite such troublesome care, the filler has an advantage that outweighs all the disadvantages - it dries very quickly. Just 3-4 hours of torment and you can put on your favorite down jacket and go out into the cold in it without fear.
