How to properly wash microfiber products: the fabric has its own secrets

Microfiber products are soft, durable, quickly absorb moisture, do not leave streaks on surfaces and are easy to rinse. However, any fabric accumulates dust and dirt over time. How to wash microfiber? It easily tolerates both hand and machine washing; the only thing you need to consider is the water temperature.

What kind of fabric is this and what is it afraid of?

Microfiber is woven from the finest fiber - polyester, polyamide or nylon. It is used to make bedding, towels, cleaning equipment, furniture, eyeglass wipes and car seats.

Synthetics do not tolerate hot water, ironing, bleaching and aggressive detergents. It is also not recommended to twist it too much when spinning, although the material is resistant to deformation. The fabric does not like the effects of fabric conditioner; because of it, it loses its unique properties.

For information
Due to improper care, microfiber does not tear or lose its properties instantly, but it wears out noticeably faster. If you wash the products correctly, they will last for several years.

Manufacturers usually indicate on the label how to care for the material, whether it can be machine washed or whether it is recommended to remove dirt manually. There is also information about temperature conditions.

Handwash

Getting rid of stains without a washing machine will not be difficult: all dirt from microfiber can be easily removed with soap and powder.

Hand wash microfiber

Basic washing rules:

  • put the products in warm water, the temperature of which should not be higher than 50 degrees;
  • boiling is unacceptable: microfibers become deformed and the towel becomes unusable;
  • use laundry soap, non-aggressive washing powder, liquid detergent;
  • pre-soak heavily soiled kitchen and floor rags for 1 hour;
  • there is no need to rub the material vigorously, stains can be easily removed using detergents;
  • rinse things only in clean water, without conditioner;
  • dry synthetics in the room or outside away from colored laundry: although microfiber itself does not fade, it quickly absorbs paint.

Advice
It is better to use a powder with a pH of less than 10 units.

In the washing machine

If you don’t have the time or desire to soak and wash microfiber by hand, you can use an automatic machine.

machine washable

The recommendations here are:

  1. Since the fabric is voluminous, the drum is ¾ loaded.
  2. Washing is done in a delicate cycle: too intense rotation damages the fibers.
  3. There is no need to put in too much powder, just fill the compartment as for a normal cycle.
  4. Wash microfiber cloths separately from other items, as lint and hair may collect on their surfaces.
  5. Temperature: 40-50 degrees.
  6. Do not wring out microfiber in the washing machine; it is better to get rid of moisture manually.

Important
When choosing a microfiber washing powder, make sure that it does not contain bleach particles or conditioner.

If the product is heavily soiled

In this case, long soaking is used for 10-12 hours. You need to dissolve the detergent in water and immerse things in it, then rinse thoroughly.If you fail to wash the towel the first time, re-soap and rinse it.

To tidy up a dishcloth, you can pre-treat it with a paste of baking soda and water and immerse it in a soapy solution for an hour, then rinse thoroughly in water.

Dirty rags

Another method that is familiar to housewives is using lemon juice as a stain remover. The recipe is as follows: juice from half a fruit is squeezed into a basin with 5-7 liters of warm water and the cloth is immersed for a couple of hours. If dirt is deeply absorbed into the fibers, you can squeeze out a whole lemon, then wash it as usual.

To remove stains, you can use Vanish, which is gentle on fabrics. The drug should be diluted according to the instructions; usually the contaminated napkin is kept in the solution for half an hour.

Rules for drying and ironing

It is recommended to keep microfiber away from hot appliances and radiators. Otherwise, bends and creases appear on the fabric that cannot be removed. As a last resort, a hairdryer at minimum temperature is allowed.

Ironing

Synthetic fiber tolerates direct sunlight well and dries in a few hours due to its porous structure.

How to iron products? Since the material practically does not wrinkle, it does not need ironing. On the contrary, heating microfiber damages the fibers. If the product is too wrinkled, it should be carefully straightened and dried while wet on a flat surface.

If bed linen is made from material and you want to give it a perfect look, you can try ironing it through a cotton napkin.

Advice
Before ironing the entire item, iron a small piece of fabric. If it has lost its shape, it is better not to risk it.

Microfiber fabric

A few recommendations:

  1. Wash microfiber in an automatic machine only as a last resort; products can be cleaned well by hand.
  2. Cloths and towels will last longer if you soap and rinse them daily.
  3. To remove stains on microfiber furniture, wipe it with a soapy solution in a circular motion, leave it to dry and then brush it further.

Microfiber is a universal, durable material, and proper washing only increases its service life.
