The canvas can be made from various fabric materials. They are united by one property - the fabric is treated with a special compound that repels dust and dirt. It is clear that washing will not benefit such a coating. Therefore, roller shutters should be subjected to wet treatment as rarely as possible.

By the way, you can sew roller blinds with your own hands. In this case, you choose the fabric yourself and can easily choose a wear-resistant material that can be washed without any special restrictions. You just need to take measures to prevent the fabric from becoming deformed - use gentle washing and spinning modes, dry flat, follow ironing recommendations.

But let's return to roller blinds, purchased in a store or made to order.

How to care for roller blinds?

To ensure that the need to wash your roller blinds arises as rarely as possible, follow the recommendations for caring for roller blinds.

• You should not hang such curtains in close proximity to heating sources - gas stoves, heating radiators, heat generators.
• Roller blinds are not recommended for use in rooms with high humidity, dirt, and high temperatures.
• Roll up the curtains before cleaning the windows.It is better to purchase canvases with a protective tube or cassette. Also, always raise the curtains if you are cooking any food on the stove. This will protect them from excess dirt and kitchen grease.
• Do not allow the fabric to crease or bend during operation.
• You can ventilate the room with the roller blinds lowered - a draft will rid the fabric of accumulated dust.
• Fabric roller shutters should only be washed if dry cleaning no longer saves the situation.
• Lubricate the web lifting mechanism only with special silicone lubricants.

Dry cleaning

Before washing roller blinds, dry clean them. Thanks to the dirt-repellent impregnation, dust accumulates only on the surface of the fabric, without penetrating deep into the fabric. How to wash curtains?

If dry cleaning no longer saves the situation, then the roller blinds need to be washed. Most roller blind fabrics are made from 100% polyester. This is a durable synthetic material, but it has its weak points. Therefore, you need to handle it carefully, and leave the use of aggressive cleaning agents for other coatings. It is best to take the curtains to the dry cleaner - this way you will get guaranteed cleanliness and will not spoil the coating. If this option does not suit you, then proceed to do your own washing.

Roller blinds should be washed as follows.

• It is most convenient to perform the procedure in the bathroom.
• Remove the canvas from the lifting mechanism.
• Lay out the curtain fabric in the bathroom so that the fabric does not wrinkle or form creases.
• Dilute detergent in any container. It must have a neutral pH so that the impact on the impregnation is minimal. If you use powder, make sure that the grains are completely dissolved.
• Soak a sponge in the detergent solution and lightly apply it to the fabric of the curtains. There is no need to be zealous and rub the surface hard.
• Rinse off the detergent and rinse the fabric thoroughly in the shower.

If the material is not rinsed well, the remaining detergent can damage the fabric. When the curtains fade in the sun, unsightly spots and stains will appear on the curtains.

Let the water drain and place the fabric on a horizontal surface to dry. When the fabric is dry, the curtains can be hung on the shaft. If necessary, you can iron the seams of the fabric with the tip of the iron. It is not recommended to iron the fabric itself.

Removing stains

If a stain appears on the curtain fabric, you can get rid of it using one of the following methods.

• Don't rush into dry cleaning. Try rubbing the stain with a regular office eraser. Do not rub too hard to avoid damaging the fabric.
• If the eraser doesn't help, use a natural stain remover. When purchasing a product, be sure to find out whether it can be used on polyester (or other material from which your roller blinds are made). Do not rush to treat the fabric right away - first test the effect of the stain remover on an inconspicuous area of ​​the fabric.

What not to do?

As we can see, roller blinds are unpretentious in care and washing. It is enough to avoid unwanted actions so that they serve you faithfully for many years.

Here are some manipulations that cannot be performed with fabric roller blinds.

• It is strictly forbidden to wash roller blinds in a washing machine. Such treatment, despite the fact that the curtain is made of fabric, will irreversibly damage the material. Accordingly, machine spinning and drying are also unacceptable.
• When drying, use horizontal surfaces. Carefully straighten the material, avoid bends and creases in the fabric - if a defect has formed on the canvas, it is almost impossible to correct it.
• Do not iron the fabric. If necessary, you can iron the seams, using gauze or a special ironing net.
• Do not use aggressive liquids such as gasoline, acetone or other solvents to remove stains.
• To wash curtains, do not rub them too hard, do not use abrasive powders or other harsh cleaners.
