What mode should I use to wash bed linen in a machine?

Like any other textile, pillowcases, sheets and duvet covers require regular cleaning. Therefore, every housewife should know how to properly wash bed linen so that the fabric does not fade or fall apart, and the set does not decrease in size by half. The choice of washing mode and temperature depends on the composition and characteristics of the material from which the bedding is made.

How to choose a washing mode?

Today, a variety of materials are used to make bedding sets - from easy-to-care, inexpensive cotton to luxury silk or satin.

To ensure that the product does not lose its original appearance and every time pleases with the purity and freshness of its colors, certain rules must be followed when washing.

Before placing bedding in the drum and setting the mode on the machine, you need to carefully study the label on the product - it contains information about the composition of the fabric and the manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning. If the label has been lost for a long time, general recommendations should be followed.

Washing mode Cotton

Cotton

Cotton and its derivatives (satin, percale, calico, jacquard) are most often used for sewing bed linen. This is due to the good hygroscopicity of cotton fabric. It is pleasant to sleep on such a bed both in summer and in winter.

The easiest way to wash a white cotton set is:

  • If the product is not too dirty, cleaning in the “Cotton” mode will be quite sufficient. The water temperature should be set to +60°C.
  • For heavy soiling, you can use the soak function and wash at +90°C.

The spin can be maximum.

In the case when the bed is made of colored material, cleaning is carried out using the “Cotton” program, but the water temperature should not exceed +40°C. Fashionable sets with a 3D pattern should be washed with particular care. Washing at +30°C will preserve the rich color of the composition.

Bamboo bed linen

Bamboo

Not long ago, bamboo kits appeared on sale. This is an amazingly soft, slightly shiny natural fabric that does not cause allergies and is perfect for people with hypersensitive skin. In addition, bamboo fabric has antibacterial properties that do not disappear even after regular washing.

Bamboo products should be washed in the “Cotton” mode at a water temperature of +40 °C.

Washing silk bed linen

Silk

Not everyone can afford a sleeping set made of natural silk. This is more of a festive than everyday linen, but even such textiles require cleaning.

Silk should be washed on the “Silk” or “Delicate” mode, turning off the spin cycle, at a water temperature of no more than +30 °C. For cleaning use liquid detergents and water softener.

Washing mode Synthetics

Synthetics

Synthetic sleeping sets are valued for their durability, ease of care (they do not need to be ironed), and affordable cost. And although sleeping on such a bed is not very pleasant and not at all useful, many buyers prefer this textile.

It is better to wash bedding made from non-natural fabrics in the “Synthetic” mode, at a temperature of +40°C.

Loading bed linen into the washing machine

Preparing and loading laundry

In order not to spoil your bedding set by washing it in a machine, you must not only be able to choose the right mode and temperature, but also properly prepare the textiles for cleaning.

Here are some recommendations for novice housewives:

  • It is better to wash bed linen made of white or light-colored fabric separately from other items. If you put a dark T-shirt in the car along with a white sheet, the appearance of a gray tint is inevitable.
  • If you plan to wash several bedding items at once, they should be separated by fabric type. It will not be possible to wash a silk pillowcase and a calico sheet at the same time, since each product requires its own mode.
  • Textiles decorated with embroidery or lace should be washed in special bags, setting the “Delicate” mode.
  • The children's bedding is washed separately, as special powders and gels are used for cleaning.
  • Products made from multi-colored fabric are turned inside out before loading into the drum. This will allow you to preserve the drawing longer.
  • Don't be surprised if the cotton set shrinks a little in size after washing. Shrinkage is normal for natural fabrics and should be kept in mind when purchasing a new set.

Washing bed linen in a washing machine will not cause any particular difficulties if you understand in advance the type of material from which the set is made. It is almost impossible to spoil your favorite things if you follow the basic rules for preparing and loading textiles, use the appropriate mode and set the appropriate temperature.
