How to organize the space under the kitchen sink to make it as convenient as possible

The kitchen is the real kingdom of the housewife. But here most often a problem awaits us: there is a lot of things that need to be placed, and there is not always enough storage space. Meanwhile, we often lose sight of hidden opportunities. For example, with the right approach, the space under the kitchen sink can be an excellent place to store necessary small items.

Under a constructive gaze

“The pipes take up all the space there!” – you may be indignant. Actually not all. And there is enough of it to organize even a mini-storage room for the necessary things.

First of all, you need to evaluate the sink itself:

  • is it big or small;
  • rectangular or angular;
  • is there a cabinet under it;
  • how much space does the water purification system take up, if one is installed.

All these points must be taken into account when choosing and arranging storage systems. So, a large one will allow you to place entire racks and organizers inside. In a small one, you can resort to some tricks, which will be discussed below. For a corner sink, it is optimal to use special rotating sections with storage shelves.

Organizing storage under the kitchen sink

Well, if there is no cabinet under the sink at all (there are also such budget options), then there is also a way out:

  • order it from the workshop;
  • do it yourself if you have the appropriate skills;
  • curtain the space with a practical curtain (for example, like the one for the bathroom - it doesn’t get wet and is easy to clean).

Before you organize anything under the sink, sort everything you plan to store there according to its intended purpose. For example, cleaning products separately, rags, sponges, brushes - separately, napkins, towels, oven mitts - separately, etc. Then you can easily select the right combinations of storage containers, and then quickly get exactly what you need now.

Organizers under the kitchen sink

The organizer organizes

This is true. Organizers are called that because they help to properly organize a bunch of items. They are best used when the cabinet under the sink is large enough. How to choose them?

First of all, measure the free area inside the cabinet. We measure and record everything that is not occupied by pipes, filters and urns. With these measurements, you can go to a hardware store, where the assortment may include storage systems of different designs: metal, plastic, wood: those that need to be built in, or pull-out ones.

They can be equipped with trays, baskets, containers, shelves, hooks... Here the choice is in favor of a specific set of things intended for storage.

Organizers in the cabinet under the kitchen sink

Don't store vegetables under the sink. This seems reasonable, but in reality the food here spoils very quickly. And if there are problems with ventilation in the room, then it is better to store all kinds of napkins and towels under the sink only in tightly closed containers.

Less space - more creativity

It's more difficult with small sinks. So much stuff just won’t fit there. But even for such cases, there are many tricks that allow you to hide everything that needs to be hidden from prying eyes.

The most important thing to remember is to replace all round and oval containers with square or rectangular ones.They are arranged as compactly as possible, saving precious centimeters of space. This also applies to the trash container.

Here are some more tricks for small spaces:

  • Railings. They can be placed in front of the drain along the entire width of the cabinet and, for example, detergents can be hung on them. If such a bar is equipped with hooks-runners, there will be even more possibilities: you can hang brushes, pipe cleaners, potholders, kitchen scissors.
  • Railing under the kitchen sink

  • Hooks. They can be fixed in any convenient and free place. The essence is the same: we hang everything that can be hung.
  • Hooks on the cabinet door under the sink

  • Clothespins. Ordinary household ones, for linen. If you fasten them, for example, on a cabinet door, they will perfectly hold rubber gloves, sheets of recipes that were written down in a hurry, but it would be a pity to lose them; packages of cleaning rags, bags, etc.
  • Shelves. When a full-fledged rack does not fit, you can place several compact shelves on the walls of the cabinet. They can contain a lot of little things.
  • Retractable bottom. In addition to shelves, hooks and rods. This tray helps you pull out all the contents of the bottom of the cabinet at once and get out what is pushed back.
  • Pull-out shelf under the sink

  • Organizer with pockets. Even on the cabinet door it will help to place a lot of kitchen items.

So, under the sink you can find enough space for practical organization of storage of necessary accessories. The main thing is to distribute them correctly. Out of sight, but at hand - that’s the motto of a rational housewife!

    Everything seems to be well thought out, but I put a trash can under the sink, so what kind of towels can there be?

    I have a bucket and garbage bags under the sink, and it’s more convenient for me to store detergents on the shelf above the sink.
