Modern textiles for the home: which fabrics have no place in 2020?

There is a fashion not only for clothes or shoes, but also for home textiles. It is less fleeting (things remain relevant for 5-7 years), but it has a clear direction - towards creating maximum comfort without the need to sacrifice beauty.

Modern curtains in living room interiors

Curtains and tulle

In 2019, either very thin and light fabrics, or coarse and heavy ones, were popular. This trend has migrated into 2020 - jacquard and lace materials remain at the peak of popularity.

For curtains, stylists recommend using silk, wool or cotton fabrics with a pronounced texture. It is due to this, and not an elaborate cut or bright color, that an accent in the interior should be created. Damask, gabardine, and tweed are ideal for sewing such curtains. Natural and synthetic burlap has also not gone out of fashion - it makes excellent curtains for kitchens and terraces.

Translucent curtains in the interior

As for the color scheme, natural, natural shades (gray, dark green, brown, midnight blue), as well as pastels (peach, baked milk, apple, powder) are held in high esteem.

Tulle is increasingly used as an independent window drapery, so the fabric must be appropriate. If for curtains that hang in pairs with drapes, white or ecru is often chosen, then for solo options multi-colored colors (for example, rainbow, two-three-color ombre) and catchy patterns are acceptable.

White tulle in the living room

The most popular in modern design:

  • Organza and veil - plain and smooth, but with an embroidered or printed pattern in a contrasting color at the bottom of the fabric.
  • Jacquard — dense weaving and large rapport in the style of arabesques or fleur-de-lis are welcome here.
  • Net - light and transparent tulle with geometric patterns (diamonds are at the height of fashion). Has a cellular structure.
  • Classic lace - they almost completely replaced guipure. Due to the very high cost, they are used only in “antique” interiors, where they look truly authentic and harmonious.

Bed sheets

Natural fabrics do not lose their relevance, because it is much nicer and more comfortable to sleep on them. However, the classic option - snow-white sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases made of cotton - has gone into oblivion. Millefleur-type patterns in the form of many small flowers also went there.

Modern bed linen

Manufacturers produce bed linen with large and bright thematic designs, including:

  • Animals - from quite familiar cats and parrots to fantastic firebirds and dragons.
  • Aquatic life — shells, octopuses, crabs, schools of colorful fish, corals, starfish.
  • Cityscapes - images of megacities with their skyscrapers and lots of night lights, or country-style drawings of small streets with cozy coffee shops and lots of flowers.
  • Animalistic patterns - black and white zebra stripes or black strokes on red, reminiscent of a tiger skin, leopard spots.
  • Floral prints - large and lush flowers, such as peonies, dahlias, tea roses.
  • Geometric patterns - zigzag, monochrome or multi-colored is at the peak of popularity.Wave patterns and simple checks are also in demand.

Despite the fact that paisley (“oriental paucumbers”) has been decorating fabrics for many years, this pattern also remains relevant.

Bed linen in delicate shades

If we consider modern bedding without flashy prints, it becomes clear that it should be either pastel or dark and deep in color. An expensive and stylish appearance is created by the texture of the fabric - in past seasons, the emphasis was on header fabric, but in 2020, cotton with a dense waffle weave and ribbed poplin are taking first place. The main requirement for fabrics is the presence of the so-called “royal radiance”, which is created due to the special twisting of the threads.

Faux fur blanket

Bedspreads and blankets

Soft but dense blankets are a must-have in modern home decor. Coarse knitting is no longer relevant, as is loose, thin lint-free fabric. They were replaced by velvet with relief patterns, as well as fabric reminiscent of faux fur. But classic checkered wool blankets do not lose popularity.

Most often, preference is given to three colors:

  • deep blue with silver or black tint;
  • cherry red;
  • emerald green.

However, there are no clear rules here - everyone is free to choose what best suits the interior and creates the desired mood.

Blankets with images of animals, celestial bodies and flowers are bought not only for the children's room, but also for the living room, making sure that the product is of high quality and looks beautiful. In particular, a blanket “for adults” should have a border made of a smooth, shiny material - silk or ramie.

Blankets in natural shades

Modern trends were set by the now popular philosophy of hygge and the no less popular loft style, so in the future we will be moving closer and closer to minimalism. In the meantime, it successfully combines with the intricate art deco, art nouveau and Venetian style in home decoration.
