Minimum and advanced list of tools for your home

It doesn’t matter whether you are a man or a woman, whether you live in your own house or in an apartment: there are tools, the ability to use them and the presence of which in the house is simply a must!

Hammer and nails

Minimum set

If you have never dealt with repair work and tools before, then there is no point in purchasing complex equipment yet. First you need to master the basics and learn how to do simple housework.

  • Scotch.

Are you laughing? But in vain! Scotch tape is actually an irreplaceable thing. Yes, it is difficult to repair something efficiently with its help, but it can fix, for example, a cracked frame in a shower stall so that it does not completely fall apart. During this time, you can think about a plan of action, buy or borrow the necessary tools and watch a couple of videos on how such breakdowns are repaired without losing the opportunity to use this very cabin.

  • Roulette.

Measuring distances with a regular ruler is completely inconvenient, and we are usually talking about more than the standard 30 or maximum 50 centimeters. Do you need to fix the tabletop at a certain height from the floor? Guess which tool will start defining the markup.

  • Level.

But the tabletop must also be installed level, and here you simply cannot do without a level. In fact, the level is indispensable in everything: from leveling walls with plasterboard to decorating the interior with paintings. For more advanced work, a convenient laser level can be useful, but it also costs much more.

  • Plunger.

In Soviet houses, a plunger was an everyday thing, but now you won’t find one during the day with a fire. Either people are ashamed to keep it in the house, or household chemicals that dissolve blockages really work, but a plunger can rarely be found in the house. But only he can urgently clear a blockage both in the toilet and in the bathroom or even in the kitchen, so there is no need to discount this tool.

  • Flashlight.

It would seem like an elementary thing, but in the household, sometimes it’s not there. So you have to illuminate your trip to the toilet or bathroom if you turn off the lights with an expensive phone. And there are enough places in the house that need to be illuminated even during the day when the lights are on: hidden valves, the sink elbow or storage systems inside the cabinet.

  • Screwdrivers.

For minor breakdowns, where the screws are a little loose or where you need to disassemble the body of the equipment, a screwdriver will be quite enough. Just keep in mind that screws come in different sizes and screw threads come in different shapes, so buy a small set at once.

  • Spanners.

Tightening the nuts by hand is a disastrous task, so you will need wrenches of different sizes. As in the case of screwdrivers, it is better to immediately buy a set designed for typical household problems, such as installing a faucet or fixing a plumbing. There are combination wrenches that can be adjusted to fit any nut, which is very convenient.

  • Glue.

Glue is not exactly a tool, but without a tube of good old “Moment” life in the house is uneasy. Minor repair work without glue would be painfully difficult, so stock up on a couple of its varieties for all occasions.

  • Hammer.

And closing the list of mandatory minimums is a hammer, which is still considered a measure of the ability to handle tools. Those who do not know how to use a hammer are unlikely to be able to take a step further - to an advanced set of tools.

Advice

If you are going to independently maintain a private house, then the minimum amount of necessary equipment will be greater than for an apartment, because you will have to not only deal with minor repairs and decor, but also maintain the operation of communications, repair the roof and facade.

Furniture stapler

Extended set

This list is already for those who are going to not only repair, but also create. These tools are indispensable for repairs, but the list of the advanced set is far from exhaustive: if you are interested in repairs in the broad sense of the word, be prepared for the fact that more and more money and space for equipment will be spent every year.

  • Drill-driver.

In fact, this tool borders on the must-have list, because without it you can’t screw on a shelf or hang curtains. You will need such a tool more than once, but you will need to learn how to use it: read about dowels, types of screws, find out where your wiring is so you don’t accidentally get caught in it.

  • Syringe for sealant.

You can get rid of puddles in the bathroom after washing yourself if you learn how to use sealant. Read the instructions, buy a syringe and get rid of annoying smudges once and for all.

  • Clamp.

This device for fixing the product is useful when gluing or other processing of things.

  • Construction stapler.

Using such a stapler you can save a lot of time and effort, because it secures thin material to wood or a wall in a matter of seconds.

Advice

You may also want to use pliers and wire cutters, especially if you are going to be working with wires or wires.

All of these tools will help you use repair services less frequently, saving you money, and while they'll take a learning curve, the joy of doing it yourself will make you feel empowered and independent.

  1. Valeria

Great list. After the divorce, I was puzzled by the question of what tools to buy for the apartment for all sorts of little things. My husband used to do this. Now at least it’s clear what the minimum is needed. Thank you
