Cleaning the toilet with Coca-Cola - the owner's story

I have heard for a long time about how harmful Coca-Cola is for the human body and how useful it is in the household. But somehow I didn’t attach any importance to it, considering it just another generation of idle talkers. And one day an incident helped me see with my own eyes that it is quite possible to clean a toilet with Coca-Cola, and it won’t turn out too bad.

A man pours Coca-Cola into the toilet

How it was

My middle son once snuck into the kitchen just before bed and opened a bottle of Coca-Cola brought by his loving aunt, thinking that I was already asleep and would not stop him from drinking a drink that was forbidden in our house. I caught him when he had only taken a few sips. In her anger, she grabbed the bottle, in front of his eyes, threw the cola into the toilet, accompanying this with understandable notations, and sent him to bed.

In the morning, after visiting the toilet and flushing the toilet, I was amazed at the changes that had occurred. In general, I consider myself a fairly clean housewife; my toilet (like the sink) is not in such a deplorable state. But then I saw that it could be much better: the toilet simply shone. The limescale deposits along the edge of the bowl dissolved, the small rusty stain disappeared, and in general the bowl began to look somehow newer, or something. I realized that cola really cleans the toilet of many contaminants. Although, to be honest, as it turned out later, it can’t wash everything. But it does not contain chlorine, hydrochloric acid and other dangerous substances.

What does Coca-Cola clean with?

Cola is a combination of several other substances that together make it an excellent cleaning agent. This:

  • carbonic acid;
  • orthophosphoric acid;
  • carbon dioxide.

This composition allows you to remove rust, limescale, yellowness, soap stains, dirt and other contaminants of organic origin. After all, as you know, active bubbles and soft acids are famous for their cleaning properties.

Accordingly, cleaning the toilet with Coca-Cola is not a radical, but very effective and, moreover, safe method.

If you need to clean the inside of the toilet, first scoop out as much water as possible from the bowl. After all, everything that is under it is inaccessible.

How can you clean a toilet with cola?

If the toilet is not too dirty, it may be enough to simply pour a couple of glasses of soda into it, making sure that it covers all the stains, and leave it for at least one hour. More is better. If it was not possible to completely clean all the dirt the first time, the procedure can be repeated, leaving the cola in the toilet bowl for a longer time. Hard-to-reach stains are washed with a rag soaked in cola, after wearing gloves, or treated with a drink from a spray bottle.

If you first treat the toilet with a brush, and then repeat this treatment after the action of the cola, before flushing the water, the effect will be much higher.

Do not pour cola into the toilet bowl if water from the tank is constantly leaking into it. Even thin streams will wash away the active ingredients of Coca-Cola quite quickly.

How to clean plumbing fixtures from heavy dirt? For more serious problems, you can try pouring hot soda into the toilet bowl. If you remember from your school chemistry course, many reactions proceed much faster and more actively when the temperature rises.You just need to be careful with hot soda – it’s much easier to burn yourself with it than with plain hot water.

Remember that the drink itself is not a disinfectant solution. Plus, he's sweet. This means that the microbes in it will only multiply even faster. Therefore, after such cleaning, use additional disinfectants.

Now you know how to clean toilets with Coca-Cola. But keep in mind that this is by no means a panacea. Cola can't do everything. For example, it is not subject to:

  • stains from fats or oils;
  • from school ink;
  • contamination with any pigments (except rust).

They will need other means. But if you only need to “clean up the mess” in the toilet, Coca-Cola will help you!
