What is the best way to remove polyurethane foam from clothes at home?

During repairs, no one is safe from paint, putty or polyurethane foam getting on their clothes. And if the first two substances are familiar and familiar to many generations, then what to do with the latter is not always clear. How to clean things from traces of polyurethane foam?

Tool for cleaning the mounting gun

Tool for cleaning the mounting gun

One of the easiest ways to remove foam from an item is to use a liquid for mounting guns. This will help not only clean the mounting gun, but also remove the mounting mixture from clothing. Even if the foam has already dried, you can wash the item to its original cleanliness without damaging the fabric. To do this you need:

  • remove the frozen part of the foam from the surface of the clothing with a handy tool (a knife, for example);
  • test the fabric's reaction to the cleaner in an inconspicuous place to make sure that the dye on the clothing does not fade;
  • wet the affected area with an “anti-foam” solution;
  • apply to the desired location and leave a tissue disk soaked in the solution for a short time;
  • after the foam has softened, wipe off the mark with a brush or the hard side of a dish sponge;
  • wash the item in the machine with an increased dose of washing powder.

Important!

Use medical or household gloves to prevent the skin of your hands from coming into contact with chemicals. This will protect you from possible allergic reactions and protect the epidermis; besides, it is very difficult to wash your hands from chemicals.

Solvents

Solvents as an effective cleaning method

At home, even when you are doing repairs yourself, you may not have liquid for the mounting gun on hand. Not everyone knows about it, and it’s difficult to figure out how to clean the stain. In this case, you can use regular paint thinner, white spirit or acetone. If you don’t have any of this and you don’t know how to remove stains from clothes, it’s better to try to wash the stain while it’s fresh. You can remove it using nail polish remover containing acetone, then brush off the remaining stain with a brush and thus remove and wash it completely at home. Don't forget to test the fabric's reaction to the product. The effect is better on uncured specks of foam.

Aerosol foam cleaner

An effective method that will help you remove traces of the mounting mixture. You can find this product at a hardware or construction store.

How to use:

  • shake the can;
  • spray on the problem area;
  • forget about things for 20-25 minutes;
  • rinse with warm running water;
  • wash the item

If the stain is not completely removed, repeat.

Dimexide

Dimexide

A pharmaceutical product for external use is widely used to clean the surface, removing excess sealant and wiping off the mounting mixture.

To remove a stain:

  • moisten it with the solution;
  • apply a cotton pad or piece of cloth soaked in the product;
  • wait until the frozen foam softens;
  • scrub or brush away any remaining residue;
  • wash your clothes and the stain will come off.

High air temperature

Using temperatures

High temperature quickly destroys the composition of the foam; you can wipe off traces of stains from clothes and clean them, and then completely wash off the stain by keeping the item in the sun.But this method is not very effective; it takes too much time.

Cold is also used:

  1. put the soiled item in the cold, freeze it;
  2. scrape off the mounting foam with a nail file;
  3. moisten the trace with acetone;
  4. wipe up the remains.

It is not known how much better the freezing method can clean a stained area of fabric than the usual attempt to remove the stain with acetone or solvent.
