How and with what to wash grease from clothes

The question of how and what to wash grease from clothes most often faces car owners. Getting rid of stubborn stains is not easy, but it is still possible.Thick lubricating oil

If trouble does happen, you can try one of the folk or modern remedies, but the chances of getting an ideal result are still low. Sometimes, along with the stain, the dye comes out of the fabric, and the fibers stretch or become thinner. Often things have to be simply thrown away after aggressive treatment.

Folk remedies to combat grease stains

Most often, when working with grease stains, improvised means are used. If such contamination is detected, it is really better not to delay and immediately make attempts to remove the composition from the texture of the fibers. At home, you can wash grease using one of the following methods:

Thick lubricating oil

  • Table vinegar. In half a liter of cool water, dilute two tablespoons of vinegar. We moisten two cotton pads in the resulting mixture, apply them to the stain on both sides and press well. We wait a couple of minutes, after which we begin to scrub the stain from the clothes, working so that the stain does not spread. Next, wash the product as usual with powder or enzyme detergent and dry in fresh air.
  • Turpentine and butter. Take a little butter, knead it in your hands until soft and apply it to the dirt. We wait about an hour, after which we treat the fatty formation with turpentine. After this, we immediately wash the item in the required mode at the maximum permissible temperature.
  • Ammonia and gasoline. Option for clothes with already dried grease stains. We moisten a cotton pad in purified gasoline, carefully wipe the dirt with it, it should soften. Apply a few drops of ammonia to the damp area and wash the item with a powerful powder, you can even run it through the machine a couple of times.
  • Water bath. Take a little heated turpentine, apply it to a clean cloth and treat problem areas. We apply a little ammonia to them, after which we keep the fabric stretched in the steam from the water bath for 3-5 minutes. Next, wash the product as usual.
  • Laundry soap and margarine. Apply slightly heated margarine to grease stains and leave the fabric for 2-3 hours for the reagent to take effect. Next, wash the product using laundry soap (tar tar is best).

Tip: Contrary to popular belief, dish soap will be completely useless when removing turpentine stains from clothes. At best, the situation will not change; at worst, the contamination will noticeably increase in size and become even more resistant to exposure to other reagents.

  • Ammonia with glycerin. Using this approach, you can remove grease stains even from delicate silk or fine wool. Pour warm water into a basin, add a tablespoon of glycerin and ammonia, stir. Soak the product in the solution for half an hour, after which we evaluate the result. If the stain is gone, the item of clothing only needs to be rinsed several times in cold water.

  • Petrol. We apply the special purified product directly to the stain, lightly scrub it with a soft brush and put it in the wash. We evaluate the result and, if necessary, repeat the manipulation again.

It is worth considering that the above approaches can change the color of the fabric if it is bright or dark. Before you start using any of the listed means, it is recommended to make sure that it is harmless on some hidden area of matter.

Modern formulations of increased efficiency

For those who do not trust folk remedies, or have not received the desired result from using them, there are the following approaches:

  • Stain remover. We take any stain remover that is suitable for a specific type of fabric. Apply the composition to the contaminated part of the clothing and leave for as long as indicated in the instructions. After this, take a toothbrush with soft bristles and lightly scrub the area where the profile product was applied. Next, rinse the fabric in cool water and, if necessary, repeat the manipulation from the very beginning.

  • Car shampoo. Quite an unusual, but very effective option for influencing solid oil. We take a little shampoo, apply it without diluting it to the traces of technical oil and leave for half an hour. There is no need to rub anything; after the specified time, we simply rinse the product in cool water. If the stain still does not come off, then apply the shampoo to a still damp cloth and this time rub it lightly to form a small amount of foam. We wait another half hour and again rinse the item in cool water. After such exposure, the formation must go away, otherwise nothing can save the tissue.

The best way to deal with grease stains on fabric is by professionals. If there is such an opportunity, then you should think about visiting a dry cleaner. This is especially true in cases of stains forming on capricious, very bright or white things, children's clothing and various types of home textiles.
