What and how can you remove nail polish from natural or synthetic fabric?

Fashionistas who like to paint their nails in a hurry are often faced with the question of how to remove nail polish from clothes. A bright, persistent stain made from substances that are not the most beneficial for the fabric, dries very quickly and risks turning into a permanent phenomenon. You need to act quickly. If you do not remove the formation before it dries completely, there is a risk of waiting for the coloring pigments to penetrate into the fibers of the material. It will be almost impossible to clean up such residual effects.

Regardless of the type of subsequent processing, the preparatory stage should consist of the following manipulations:

  1. We blot the trace with a cotton pad or a dry cloth, trying to collect as much liquid as possible.
  2. We take a toothpick and use it to try to pull out any remaining product that has managed to get stuck between the fibers.
  3. We spread the damaged item on a hard horizontal surface, placing a piece of soft white cotton fabric under the area where the stain is located.

Before attempting to remove varnish marks from fabric, it is recommended to test the product on an inconspicuous area of the product.

Methods of influencing matter made from natural fibers

acetone

It doesn't take much effort to remove nail polish from clothes made from cotton, linen or other natural fabrics. You just need to use one of the following methods:

  • Treatment with acetone. The simplest and safest exposure option.Apply acetone solution onto the remaining varnish, take a cotton pad and try to clean the surface with gentle movements. If the stain is gone, but obvious stains remain, they need to be wiped with gasoline and finally sprinkled with talcum powder.
  • Gasoline reading. Pour a little gasoline onto the problem area and leave it for a quarter of an hour. Then we take a piece of cloth and try to erase the formation with intense movements. To remove the stains, apply a little more liquid, wait again, and wait until three.

Tip: If you are processing a piece of clothing made of white or light fabric, then it is recommended to add a little crushed chalk to the main component and leave until the mixture dries completely.

  • Hydrogen peroxide. The optimal and safe option for processing white items. We soak a rag in 3% hydrogen peroxide and gently wipe the contaminated surface. We regularly change the working tool as it becomes dirty.
  • Bleach. Another effective remedy in the fight against varnish stains on a white surface. Apply the selected product based on the type of fabric to the affected area and leave for at least half an hour.
  • White Spirit. It also gives good results in a short time. Apply the mixture liberally to a piece of cloth and apply it to the stain for 15 minutes.

White Spirit

To completely remove nail polish from fabric, you need to run the product in the washing machine for one standard cycle. If the first approach fails to remove a stubborn stain or stains appear in its place, you should try the same product again or use a suitable stain remover.

How to quickly wash synthetics and delicate fabrics?

Removing traces of varnish from synthetic or delicate fabrics is not so easy. All of the methods listed are not suitable for this purpose; they will not remove the stain completely, but at the same time they will most likely ruin the item of clothing.

It’s better not to risk it and use one of the following:

  • Nail polish remover without acetone. Apply the composition to the stain, wait a few seconds and begin to rub the formation in one direction. If necessary, we change the cotton pads and work until the problem is completely eliminated.
  • Homemade stain remover. Take a teaspoon each of ammonia, turpentine and olive oil. Mix the ingredients and apply liberally to the problem area. Leave for no more than five minutes, collect the mixture with a paper or cloth napkin. We wash the item as usual. If marks still remain, we do another approach, but only after the product is completely dry.

It is strictly forbidden to treat varnish stains with acetic or citric acid. The result will be unpredictable; aggressive components can increase the durability of the stain and add brightness to the color.

Varnish stains can be cut off from woolen items with dense, long pile. In this case, it is better to wait until the composition dries. The main thing is to turn the product over with the stain facing down so that the varnish does not seep into the fibers.

If the listed methods do not give the desired result, it is worth repeating the approach, slightly increasing the exposure time of the active components. If there are no positive changes even after this, you will have to contact professionals who will remove the formations using more effective chemicals. If a product made of very delicate fabric (for example, silk) is damaged, it is better not to risk it and immediately contact the dry cleaner.
