What and how to remove marker marks from clothing?
Happy parents and representatives of creative professions quite often wonder what they can use to remove felt-tip pens from items of clothing. Most often, aggressive bleaches or multiple washing cycles are used immediately. This negatively affects the condition of the fabric, and it is not always possible to completely remove the stain. In fact, the problem is not so terrible, you just need to approach it correctly.
To remove unwanted marks from a product, it is necessary to properly prepare it. In this case, you must be guided by the following rules:
- Processing should be carried out while the formation is still fresh. The dried stain will slightly lose its brightness, but it will be much more difficult to wipe it off.
- It is strictly forbidden to use the first stain remover you come across. If you clean without taking into account the quality of the fabric and the type of marker, you can damage the product and increase the durability of the formation.
- Before starting targeted work, the selected reagent must be checked on an invisible area of the product.
You should not try to wash the marker off during a normal run in the machine, this may only fix the stain or smear it over a larger area.
Rules for treating stains from water-based, chalk-based and fat-based markers
The easiest way to remove stains is water or chalk based. To do this, you need to use one of the following approaches:
- Apply a little neutral dishwashing gel to the affected area and leave the material to dry. After this, we wash the product in the traditional way. If you need to remove marks from a white surface, it is recommended to treat the area with laundry soap before washing.
- It’s even easier to wipe this marker off your skin. You need to prepare a concentrated solution of laundry soap, apply it to the surface of the product and gently rub it with a soft brush. We remove the remaining product with a damp cloth, then dry the area with a piece of cloth.
Traces of a fat marker will disappear without a trace if you first dissolve the coloring pigments. To do this, take vegetable oil, apply it to a cloth and gently rub until the color is completely neutralized. After such manipulation, only a greasy stain will remain, which can be easily removed using dishwashing gel.
Methods to help remove traces from an alcohol marker
The most difficult marks to remove from clothing are those left by an alcohol-based marker or felt-tip pen. The following approaches are characterized by increased efficiency in this case:
- The easiest way to display the formation is using an analogue of the base. This could be vodka, medical alcohol, shaving lotion, cologne. We wet a cotton pad in the selected composition and blot the stain. Rubbing the problem area is strictly prohibited! After achieving the desired result, wash the item of clothing as usual.
Tip: Before washing a felt-tip pen from clothes using any of the suggested methods, you need to turn the product inside out. Only with this approach will the paint not penetrate deep into the matter and transfer to other areas of the object. In this case, you need to put a napkin under the fabric, which will absorb dirt.
- When processing leather items, you can use the previous method. Only the work will be carried out from the front side, and after the contamination has been removed, the surface will need to be treated with a small amount of cream.
- In the case of permanent permanent markers, it is best to use Vanish. First, apply the product directly to the stains, then add it to the machine when washing. It is recommended to apply the active component to a pre-moistened cloth, then there will be no streaks left on it.
- Thin traces of marker can be removed with a vinegar solution. If the fabric is dense, then the 9% composition can be used in its pure form. When working with delicate fabrics, it is recommended to first dilute the product (three tablespoons per glass of water). Apply the liquid to the problem area, the fabric should be completely saturated. Then rub soda into this area, working on both sides. After a quarter of an hour, rinse the product and wash it in a soap solution.
- A very unexpected product gives good results - hairspray. Apply it directly to a fresh stain and blot with paper napkins. Repeat until the contamination is completely removed. Then we wash the item in the traditional way.
If the proposed methods do not give the desired result, you should use specialized stain removers; in this case, you also need to take into account the type of contamination. As a last resort, you will have to turn to professionals, but you need to remember that not all products can be dry cleaned. Sometimes, in order not to throw away a favorite item, skillful housewives disguise the problem area with embroidery or appliqué.
