Where to store a bicycle in an apartment. We save square meters
Content:
In modern apartments, every square meter counts. And the only hope for cycling enthusiasts is a well-thought-out bicycle storage system. Even in a one-room Khrushchev house there is room for a two-wheeled horse!
How to store a bike in the hallway
Many people simply leave their bike against the wall. But this creates two problems:
- the bike constantly slips and falls
- it stains the wall.
To prevent this from happening, buy a special rack - metal fasteners will securely fix the equipment. And if you have high ceilings, then you can attach not one, but two or three bicycles to the rack.
Another convenient option: combine mounts for equipment and a clothes hanger. Of course, you'll have to wash the bike clean before hanging it up. But you will save space and will not trip over the steering wheel and wheels every time you enter the house.
If you have a spacious hallway and there is space for a built-in wardrobe, create a niche for a bicycle.
Fill the upper shelves with things and boxes, and install brackets next to the department for coats and jackets.
Or combine a vertical rack with a niche for shoes.
Floor storage
If you don't want to bother with the mounts, just place the bike on the floor and lean it against the wall. And to prevent the wheels from staining everything around with black rubber and dust, put this nice cover on them.
The cycling socks are durable, stretch well and do not slip off the wheels. Dust does not spill through them and water does not flow. The designs are very different - there are models for both adults and children.
To prevent the two-wheeled horse from rolling forward and sliding to the side, you can buy a metal floor stand. Or you can do it yourself.
You can combine a stand for equipment and the most ordinary furniture. How do you like this “improved” sofa?
Wall storage
Want to save space? Hang your bike on the wall. For example, like this.
The hanger is similar to a regular clothes hanger - only much stronger. Powerful carabiners are attached to the metal crossbar, and there are tight fastening loops on them. On top of the shelf you can put equipment parts or any other items.
For one bike, it is better to choose a more compact model.
Thick boards create a distance between the wheels and the wall - black rubber marks will not remain on the wallpaper or paint.
Here's another interesting idea with a shelf.
Here the bicycle is organically integrated into the interior.
The shelf can be anything: wide, narrow, multi-tiered. Instead of a shelf, attach a hanging table with bike racks to the wall, and you won’t have to lift heavy equipment to a height of more than a meter.
If you have a spacious apartment, hide bicycles in niches.
Make a false wall out of drywall, plywood or thin wood. Calculate the size of the niches and place them so that there is always easy access to two-wheeled vehicles.
The most determined bike maniacs can turn a two-wheeled horse into a real work of art.
Consider the location for the composition, lighting, and be sure to take into account the interior style and color scheme.
But remember: if you put the bike “on display”, you will have to wash it until it shines – literally. No dirt on the tires, no stains on the frame. Now it is not a means of transportation, but an exhibit.
Ceiling mount
The easiest way is a hanger with hooks. Cheap, fast, convenient. You can easily make such a storage system with your own hands.
Simply attach powerful mounts to the ceiling and hang the equipment by the wheels. The only problem is who will lift not the lightest thing to the ceiling? If only women and children live in the house, it is better to choose another option. For example, this one.
The bar with fastenings can be lowered lower, the bike can be secured to it and raised without effort.
Bicycle rack
If you store a bicycle in your apartment, use it instead of an exercise bike!
For this you will need a bike station. By attaching the “transport” to this device, you will turn the wheel without moving. Special rollers are pressed against the wheels to regulate the resistance. You can make your workouts more difficult or easier.
On a bike rack
Do you think that a bike rack is a clunky iron stand? Then check this out!
The compact stand looks great and is comfortable and lightweight. You can place it on the balcony, in the garage or under a canopy near the entrance. If you choose the latter option, secure the stand tightly to the wall and floor, and chain the equipment.
Manufacturers offer openwork wooden racks for the home.
Disassembled
To save space, disassemble the equipment and fold it as compactly as possible. It is better to allocate a separate niche for technology.
A disassembled bicycle will fit under the window, on the mezzanine or on the shelf of a tool rack.
These tips also apply to folding models.
On the balcony
Apartment buildings have loggias and balconies. Why not store bikes there?
A narrow side wall is rarely used functionally. Attach the brackets to it and hang the equipment. Fill the free space with shelves or cabinets.
If you have a glazed balcony, feel free to leave the equipment for the winter. Temperature around 0 OIt won't harm the metal.
Just don't hang your bike outside! Firstly, it is dangerous: it can break and fall. You don't want anyone to get hurt. And secondly, the metal will begin to rust - and even careful lubrication will not stop this process.
Please remember: you cannot store bicycles in hallways!
Fire safety rules require that stairwells should not be cluttered with anything: neither strollers, nor sleds, nor bicycles. You may be fined for violation.
