How to properly store removable dentures at night?

Many people firmly associate the prosthetic procedure with a picture of a false jaw floating in a cup. How to properly store removable dentures? At night, modern designs do not need to be removed at all. If such a need arises, use a special container. It is important that it is clean and sealed tightly. Products are stored dry or the container is filled with a disinfectant solution.

Storage rules

Immediately after prosthetics, it is not recommended to remove the structure, even at night. During the adaptation period, dentures should remain in the mouth as much as possible. It lasts from 2 to 6 weeks. Further wearing is at the discretion of the patient. If the structure does not interfere and there is no habit of grinding your teeth in your sleep, you can safely leave it overnight.

But most people still prefer to take out their dentures before bed. In this case, it is important to follow the storage rules:

  1. Clean the structure. Use a soft brush and toothpaste without hard particles or whitening ingredients.

  2. Place in container. It must be clean, hermetically sealed, with ventilation holes. It is best to purchase a special box that does not allow dust or dirt to penetrate.

  3. Wash your dentures before inserting them. It is recommended to carry out the procedure in the bathroom with hands washed with soap. The teeth are also washed to eliminate the risk of infections.

It is better not to remove removable dentures for 3-4 or more days without special indications, otherwise discomfort will arise. And if you leave the dentures for 3-4 weeks, they may become completely unusable.

Storage in water

Storing modern dentures in water is not recommended for a number of reasons:

  • Bacteria multiply faster in water than in a dry environment.
  • Chlorinated water promotes metal corrosion.
  • In hot water the structure may become deformed.

Why were false teeth previously stored in a glass of water? Just 20 years ago, similar products were made from rubber. When exposed to air, the material quickly dried out and lost its elasticity. Water was needed to prevent cracks and make wearing comfortable.

The advantage of storing it in water is that inserting a wet denture is much more pleasant than dry dentures.

Modern types of structures tolerate storage equally well both in water and “on land”. But the quality of the liquid should not be in doubt. To store dentures, you can only use boiled, fresh and cool water.

Tablets for disinfection of dentures

Storage in a disinfectant solution

Once every 3–7 days, it is recommended to disinfect removable dentures with special means. To destroy harmful bacteria and provide high-quality cleansing, it is enough to keep the product in the solution for 10–15 minutes. Prolonged soaking does not improve the quality of cleaning.

The advantage of using a disinfectant solution for overnight storage is that bacteria do not multiply on the structure at night. She stays clean. There is no need to wash it in the morning - you can immediately put it back in place.

Tablet disinfectants are the most popular. The tablet is dipped into cold water and, without waiting for complete dissolution, dentures are placed inside the container.

Names of disinfectants:

  • Corega Bio;
  • "Protefix";
  • Curaprox;
  • Lacalut Dent.

Clasp dentures

How to store partial dentures?

Clasp dentures are stored in the same way as acrylic and nylon ones - in a special box in dry conditions, less often - in a solution or in water.

Storage in liquid is associated with a number of limitations. This type of structure contains a metal frame. Chlorinated tap water reacts chemically with the metal. Subsequently, this can lead to corrosion of certain areas.

Removable dental products are made from different materials: acrylic, nylon, metal ceramics, metal, plastic. Depending on the type of prosthesis, the optimal care and storage will be determined. Recommendations are given by the prosthetic dentist. As a rule, modern products are stored in specially designed boxes in a dry and clean state.
