How can you remove superglue from the skin of your hands?

To carry out minor home repairs, almost every person has used Moment, Secunda glue and similar products based on cyanoacrylate at least once in their life. Rubber gloves are not always available to protect the skin of your hands from getting superglue on them. How to wipe Moment from your hands and remove dried glue from your fingers? There are several ways to do this.

Anti-glue in tubes

Special means

Construction and hardware stores sell a special product for dissolving superglue. These are so-called removers, usually called “Anti-glue” by the manufacturer. The most common of them are “Anti-glue Super Moment” from the German company Henkel, the Swiss glue remover “Secunda”, “Strength” from the Chinese manufacturer and “Contact”. These products are produced in small tubes, and they cost about 50-70 rubles. Using this product, you can easily remove superglue from the skin of your hands, clothes, and household items.

Using anti-glue is very simple. The composition is applied to the glue stain, left for about an hour (see instructions), then washed off with warm water and soap. The chemicals contained in the solvent corrode the cyanoacrylate, on the basis of which Moment and other similar adhesives are made. To remove marks from fingers, anti-glue is applied for a shorter period of time - after all, such chemicals are harmful to the skin. As soon as the glue begins to change its structure, it is recommended to wipe off its remains with a sponge using soapy water.

Wipe glue off hands with pumice stone

Mechanical scraping

A fairly effective, but harsh way to remove stains from the skin is to scrub off the dried “Moment” using abrasives. You can use sandpaper, pumice or a lady's nail file.

The method is effective if there is a sufficiently thick layer of glue left on the skin. Then it is carefully cleaned off using one of the above tools, being careful not to touch the exposed skin. Remains of superglue are washed off with soap and water.

Advice

Cured glue should be disposed of as soon as possible. The more time passes, the more firmly the composition sets and penetrates deeper into the skin.

Dimexide

Chemical substances

In addition to commercially produced washes, you can use other chemicals. Of course, their effectiveness will be much lower than that of special means, but in the absence of such, everything that is at hand in the house will be useful.

  • Acetone or nail polish remover that contains it will help remove superglue from the skin of your hands. Apply the solution to a cotton swab or piece of cotton cloth and rub it onto the stain. It will take some time to wash off superglue this way. Acetone penetrates into the cracks of the adhesive composition and exfoliates the dried “Moment”.
  • In addition to acetone, you can use other solvents - gasoline or white spirit.
  • After acetone, it is necessary to wash off the peeled glue under running water, then moisten the stain with solvent again - and so on several times.
  • For those who have delicate skin on their hands, it is better to use regular table salt. Before this, your hands are soaked in warm water, then a little salt is poured onto the glue. It is rubbed into the Moment stain for several minutes, and a white foam forms. It needs to be washed off with running water. If necessary, repeat the procedure.
  • Instead of salt, you can use a women's cosmetic skin scrub or vegetable oil to remove superglue from your fingers.
  • The pharmaceutical product "Dimexide" reduces the strength of the adhesive. This is an antiseptic solution, produced in ampoules or bottles. It costs a penny. “Dimexide” is applied to a cotton pad and applied to the “Moment” stains for several minutes, after which you need to rinse off the product with water.

Wash off the glue with water

Wash off the glue with water

A small amount of superglue that gets on the skin is best washed off immediately with warm water and soap. This could be a soap solution or a hand bath with dishwashing detergent. Keep your fingers in it for a few minutes, then start scrubbing the “Moment” with a hard sponge. Repeat the washing procedure several times a day.

If you can’t wash off the super glue completely, don’t worry. After a few days, the stain will disappear - the glue will fall off along with the dying epidermis (the upper layer of skin, which is constantly renewed naturally).

After all the “executions”, take care of your hands. Lubricate your skin with a moisturizing or rich nourishing hand cream. If you don’t have one in your home, apply vegetable oil to problem areas for 20-30 minutes.

Removing superglue from skin is not an easy task. Therefore, do not neglect such a simple means of protection as rubber or plastic gloves.
