How to close the gap between the wall and the washing machine so that nothing falls into it

At some point, I realized that the gap between the washing machine and the wall was poisoning my life. Socks, combs and various small things fall into it every now and then. It's good if I notice and get it in time. And it happens that a small warehouse grows in this gap. In general, I suggest an idea to everyone who suffers with the ill-fated gap just like me.

How to close the gap between the wall and the washing machine

When the technician connected the washing machine, he said that the gap between the wall could not be eliminated. This is a technological gap. If I put the machine close to the wall, it will break all my tiles. When spinning clothes, it vibrates and may not even jump or move much. Therefore, you will have to come to terms with the gap. Which is what I did for many years.

The gap between the wall and the washing machine

From time to time I tried to seal the gap between the washing machine and the wall with tape. There was also an idea to put foam in it or glue window sealing. But it's too unreliable. The tape and seal will come off, and the foam will crumble. And then a picture of a modern bathroom interior caught my eye:

The machine stands under the tabletop, and the gap is closed. I didn't plan to buy new furniture. So I started thinking about how to do something similar myself on a budget and easily. I went to the rows with building materials. Think about what the countertop could be made from and ask the price.

Option #1

The first option is a wooden tabletop made from furniture board. To implement it you will need:

  • furniture panel (RUB 1,300);
  • 6 pcs. corners 80*80 mm (120 rub.);
  • stain;
  • varnish;
  • dowels

The essence of the idea is to:

  1. Cut a tabletop of a suitable size from a piece of furniture (can be wider than the machine, with a cutout for the sink).
  2. Cover it with stain and varnish to prevent the wood from becoming damp and moldy.
  3. Install the corners.
  4. Place the tabletop on top.

This idea didn't suit me. There are no necessary tools at home (saws and drills). I was also hoping for a smaller amount.

Option No. 2

An ideal option for a housewife without a husband is a cover made of a plastic panel. It cost me 250 rubles. With this money I bought:

  • wide white PVC (plastic) panel;
  • white plastic corners;
  • double sided tape.

When I got home I did the following:

  1. I placed a plastic sheet on the washing machine so that it covered the gap.
  2. I made marks with a simple pencil.
  3. I cut out a rectangle with a utility knife.
  4. I glued the corners to cover the cuts (using Titan glue).
  5. I glued the resulting overlay to the machine using double-sided tape.

I am satisfied with the work done. It turned out pretty cute and inexpensive. The overlay is not noticeable. And most importantly, nothing falls into the gap.

I hope the ideas I described will be useful to someone. If you have an extra 1.5 thousand and a handy husband, it is better, of course, to make a good-quality wooden tabletop with a cutout for a sink (oh, my dream). The second method is also good. I was able to close the gap in just half an hour, and the materials cost mere pennies.
