What do I do with old towels so they don't lie in the closet?

Giving a second life to things is in the blood of the Russian people. Throw out old towels? Well, I do not. With a little effort, “junk” will be transformed into useful things for the home.

Without old towels it’s like without hands

If you ruthlessly part with towels, then you have never done any repairs. When carrying out this task, not a single piece of rag is superfluous. An old towel can be used to remove paint from brushes, wash off construction dirt, and, ultimately, quickly dry your hands. There are other ways to use it.

Old towels will be useful:

  • in the garage - give the towels for rags to your husband, and he will certainly find a use for them;
  • for cleaning the house - turn a towel into a floor rag (see below for a detailed master class);
  • to clean the entrance - use newly made rags to wash the floor and walls in the entrance. It’s useful, and you don’t mind throwing it away later;
  • in the bathroom - if you have been looking for a comfortable washcloth for a long time or dreamed of a soft and beautiful rug, sew it yourself;
  • for the kitchen - thick fabric makes excellent potholders;
  • for pets – you can wipe the animals’ paws with an old towel after going outside. And it can also be turned into a cozy and comfortable bed;
  • for young children – is your child just learning to hold a spoon? Then you probably need bibs. From one old towel you can sew 4-7 bibs for your baby;
  • soft toys and finger theater - if there are irremovable stains on the towels, cut off the remaining part.Use it for sewing soft toys, finger theater, and crafts for kindergarten.

MK for making a comfortable floor rag

Of course, a towel cloth cannot compare in quality to a microfiber cloth. But sometimes it’s frankly a pity to put the latter into action when it comes to cleaning some utility room or dacha.

Everything is very simple and fast. By the way, it is not necessary to use Velcro. To fix it on the mop, you can sew loops and buttons to the cloth.

MK for making potholders

Usually batting is used to make potholders. It can withstand high temperatures and reliably protects the owner's hands from burns. But if you have an old thick towel, batting is not needed.

Pot holders made from an old towel

Sewing a potholder is very simple:

  1. Place your palm on a piece of paper, stick out your thumb and trace.
  2. Add 3-4 cm on all sides and cut out the template along the marked line.
  3. Fold the towel in 3-4 layers.
  4. We pin the template with pins.
  5. Cut it out.
  6. Sew with an overlock stitch around the circumference, leaving a hole for the brush.
  7. Turn it inside out.
  8. We trim the edge with bias tape.
  9. We also use it to make a loop for hanging the potholder.

MK for making washcloths

Many people prefer to wash with soap rather than all kinds of shower gels. In this case, a pocket-type washcloth will come in handy. It is very convenient: the soap is located inside, does not slip out of your hands and does not fall.

Turn the pocket inside out, put the soap inside - and you're done!

Wet a washcloth with water and rub with your hands to create a lather. After use, do not forget to remove the bar of soap from it and dry it.

MK: bath headband

It often happens that a terry towel wears out only in the center. If the edges have retained their original softness and have not faded, you can make this beautiful bandage for water procedures from an old towel:

You will need:

  • 3 pieces of terry cloth: 70 x 20 cm, 20 x 20 cm and 14 x 14 cm;
  • underwear elastic 2.2 m long;
  • threads in color, sewing needle and scissors.

You can make a lot of useful things out of old towels. Personally, they never last long for me. My opinion: an additional rag is never superfluous in the household. If I’m in the mood, I sew pot holders from towels, I’ve already made a bandage and a washcloth, and I plan to start working on a rug soon. How do you dispose of old towels?
