Three rules for using a triple brush for suede and nubuck

When buying shoes or clothes made from noble materials, everyone dreams that they will retain a presentable appearance for as long as possible. To do this, you need to acquire special care products, and also get into the habit of using a brush for suede and nubuck. Read on to learn more about the specifics of choosing and using this useful device.

How to choose a brush for suede and nubuck?

Natural suede and nubuck are 2 types of leather with pile. In the first case, the villi are usually longer, and in the second, shorter. As you know, any hairiness attracts dust. It settles deep in the skin, and a slight movement of a cloth or sponge cannot remove it. Moreover, due to friction, bald spots appear on suede and nubuck, and the product deteriorates forever.

For care you need a special brush. It must have sufficient rigidity to lift the pile and remove dirt from it. It is important that the surface is not damaged. And to treat hard-to-reach places and remove dried dirt, it is good to use a ribbed protrusion or a pointed edge.

What does a brush look like for nubuck and suede:

  • contains synthetic pile with a brass wire insert;
  • has rubber teeth - an eraser;
  • The triple brush also has an additional protrusion (rib) for effective cleaning of seams and the area near the sole.

You can find this useful device in any self-respecting shoe store or in the hardware department next to shoe polishes.A worthy representative is the Dividik brush with three types of surfaces for caring for suede and nubuck.

How to use - 3 rules

After acquiring a faithful assistant, it is important to first figure out how to properly clean your shoes. There are 3 rules:

  1. The surface is always cleaned in one direction - against the pile. Do not move the brush back and forth or make circular movements.
  2. If the shoe material is suede or nubuck, it should only be cleaned dry. Wet material may deteriorate.
  3. Shoes need to be cleaned daily. Every time after going outside, brush away the dust so that it doesn’t stick.

A special triple brush can be used to clean not only shoes, but also sheepskin coats, other clothes, and bags made of nubuck and suede.

Which side should you clean suede and which side should you clean nubuck?

The device with a triple surface is the most popular and is chosen most often. But many people have a logical question: which side of the brush to clean suede, and which side to clean nubuck? Let's look at each of them in turn.

  1. The side with nylon nap and brass wire is for napping. Mostly it is suede, but there is also long-haired nubuck. Metal bristles lift the leather fluff, as a result, the shoes are carefully cleaned of dust and stains, and shiny areas are smoothed out.
  2. The rubber side (or rather rubber side) is ideal for nubuck surfaces, but can also be used for suede. Like an eraser, it erases dirt and small scratches. In addition, the brush gently polishes the noble leather, maintaining its velvety and matte shine.
  3. The ribbed protrusion is designed to clean seams, zippers, and small decorative parts from dirt. Very comfortably!

How to replace the brush?

Without a doubt, it is more convenient and effective to clean suede and nubuck shoes with a special brush. But if it is suddenly not at hand, it will be replaced:

  • a steam cleaner or a pan of boiling water - just hold your shoes over the steam, and then go over them with a regular brush (or napkin, sponge);
  • a crust of rye bread is a folk remedy for cleaning suede (you need to lightly rub the dirty area with the crust);
  • stationery eraser (used for cleaning nubuck);
  • sticky roller or paper tape - help get rid of dust on suede.

A soap solution with ammonia is a good solution for severe stains. Dissolve a teaspoon of shampoo in 300 ml of water, measure out 100 ml and add 1 tablespoon of ammonia. Next, the solution is applied to the stain with a soft brush and washed off with a sponge after 5 minutes. All you have to do is wipe your shoes with a napkin - and they will shine clean!

Suede and nubuck products are elegant, but require careful care. Improper cleaning and careless attitude will render them unusable very quickly. Remember simple rules and use a special brush - nubuck and suede will reward you with a beautiful appearance!

    My nubuck boots were trampled on the subway. Naturally, I didn’t have a cleaning brush with me. The eraser wiped everything off perfectly. I didn't even expect such a result.
