3 simple ways to thread a needle quickly and easily

It would seem that there is nothing easier than threading a needle. But it’s not always possible to do this quickly - sometimes your eyesight fails, sometimes the thread turns out to be of poor quality and splits into a hundred fibers, sometimes the eyelet is too small. However, professional seamstresses know many ways to cope with this task without much effort.

Using the needle threader

Special devices

In garment factories, where every minute of working time counts, needle threaders are used. These are small devices consisting of a wooden or plastic handle and a diamond-shaped wire loop. They are indecently simple in operation:

  1. First you need to thread the loop through the eye of the needle - this is not difficult, since the loop is quite hard and does not slip off.
  2. Then insert the tip of the thread into the loop.
  3. Pull the loop back and the thread will pass through the eye along with it.

Using a manual needle threader
After the third or fourth time, these actions will become automatic, and you will be able to perform them in a matter of seconds.

Another way to tighten the thread into a needle that is inserted into a sewing machine involves using tweezers. It is enough to cut the tip (if you cut it off, it will turn out to be disheveled), at a distance of 2-3 mm from the cut, grab the thread with tweezers, bring it to the place where the eye is located, and move it in different directions. The thread itself will slip into the desired hole, after which all you have to do is manually pull the end longer.

On the palm

A very simple method that is suitable for people with poor vision or insufficiently developed fine motor skills. All that is needed:

  1. Place a thread on the palm of your left hand.
  2. Take the needle in your right hand.
  3. Vigorously rub the eye of the needle on the thread.
  4. Under the influence of friction, the thread will begin to form loops, one of which will slip through the eye on its own. When this happens, you need to pull it out to the desired length.

Useful tips

Sometimes visually impaired people have to do a lot of sewing. In this case, both the threader and the tweezers will not be particularly convenient, since they still require good vision, and twisting the thread on the palm takes a relatively long time. The way out of the situation is to buy patent needles. They differ from ordinary ones in the design of the ear - it is not solid, but consists of two parts. Just put the thread on top and pull it down so that it slips inside. But it won’t get outside in the same way, since it is securely fixed.

If the inability to quickly thread a needle is due to the fact that the cut quickly becomes shaggy, this can be corrected with the help of a candle. Dip the end of the thread into melted wax or paraffin and quickly pull it between your fingers - the fibers will be saturated and seem to be glued together. In addition, such a thread becomes harder, does not slip, and is easier to thread into a tiny hole.

Thread in the eye of a needle
Choose high-quality threads and needles with a comfortable (thin but elongated) eye - this will greatly facilitate the process of threading the needle.

“Under the influence of friction, the thread will begin to form loops” - this is magic :)))
