Is it worth paying extra for toilet paper?

At first glance, toilet paper is inexpensive. But if you consider how many rolls the average family uses per year (about 90 units), you get an impressive amount. At the same time, many may have noticed that the price range for this hygiene item is very large - from 6 to 250 rubles. That is, every year the family spends from 540 to 22,500 rubles, you know where. The difference is significant. So does it make sense to overpay?

What are the different types of toilet paper?

It is not without reason that toilet paper is considered the most important and in demand in the world. It is used by most of the world's population. Russia alone produces so many products that it is possible to circle our planet around the equator 2645 times. But at the same time, how different it can be:

  • dry and wet;
  • single-layer and multi-layer;
  • multi-colored;
  • flavored;
  • leafy;
  • with or without embossing.

But the main thing that makes it different is the raw materials used, which directly affects the quality and appearance.

Types of toilet paper

Hygiene products are classified into different categories. But the main ones are material and layering.

Products are classified according to the type of material:

  • from recycled materials.
  • from cellulose;
  • mixed.

Gray types of toilet paper are produced from recycled materials (recycled cardboard, stationery paper).

Mixing raw materials allows you to balance the advantages and disadvantages, as well as the cost of the hygiene product.

Toilet paper is classified according to its multilayer structure:

  • single-layer;
  • 2-layer;
  • 3-layer;
  • 4-layer;
  • 5-layer (rare).

Softness and comfort of use depend on the layering. The more layers, the softer and thinner each of them is. At the same time, the overall strength of the sheet is maintained, and absorbency increases.

Aura wet toilet paper

Impregnated hygiene products deserve special attention. From a health safety standpoint, wet sheets are considered the best. They effectively cleanse the skin without damaging it and have antiseptic properties. They are produced in a similar way to wet wipes, but, unlike them, they quickly dissolve in water.

Choosing toilet paper

When assessing the quality of toilet paper, pay attention to the following characteristics:

  • strength;
  • softness;
  • solubility in water;
  • ease of tearing off the sheet;
  • roll length and width.

According to GOST, toilet paper should not be narrower than 9 cm or shorter than 110 cm. But there are copies that are smaller in length and width, which are produced according to specifications.

Dimensions are not as important as, for example, solubility in water. If the sheets dissolve poorly, a sewer blockage will occur.

Comfort of use depends on strength, softness and ease of tearing. For delicate children's skin and bedridden patients, it is preferable to use very soft or damp paper.

The best toilet paper

In 2018, a study was conducted in Russia in which different types of toilet paper were tested.

The products that received the highest scores were:

  • Zewa;
  • Papia;
  • Familia.

Zewa toilet paper
The following conclusions were drawn:

  • Zewa Exclusive ultra-soft toilet paper is the best, soft and highly soluble in water.
  • Familia brand products dissolve the fastest, Lilia products dissolve slower.
  • The most expensive paper tested was Lotus, but it failed the coloring test and received one of the lowest scores (2.4).
  • Familia products were named the best in terms of price and quality ratio (4.9 points).
  • Of the cheapest toilet papers, “All Year Round” (4.4 points) and “People’s” (4.1 points) received relatively high scores.

Also on the website where various popular product groups are tested, the following rating is published:

Does gray paper contain lead, since it is found in the dyes used in printing?
Does white paper contain chlorine?
The main question is: is it worth overpaying?

The assortment of toilet paper can sometimes make your eyes wide open. I would like to choose something that is soft and beautiful at the same time, but also budget-friendly. As the study showed, a worthy economical option is two-layer paper from Familia, costing 19 rubles per roll. And if price is not an issue, Zewa will meet any expectations. It has been occupying the first positions in rating tables for many years.
