How can you remove sea buckthorn oil stains?
How to remove sea buckthorn oil from clothes? This question is often asked by housewives. After all, sea buckthorn oil stains are one of the most persistent, and recipes that help cope with other stains are powerless here. It is difficult to remove, because the natural pigment present in sea buckthorn, binding to fat, becomes persistent, and when absorbed into the fabric, stains it.
But still the situation is not hopeless. If such contamination appears on your clothes, you can wash it using traditional methods or purchase special products to remove persistent stains. Of course, if sea buckthorn oil or a cosmetic product based on it gets on your clothes, it is advisable to immediately remove it without letting it dry. Fresh stains are much easier to remove.
How to remove a fresh sea buckthorn stain?
There are several recipes, tested in practice, that will help remove sea buckthorn oil from things.
- Pour boiling water over the oil that has just been spilled and immediately wash the clothes with regular laundry soap.
- If you can’t do laundry right away, sprinkle the contaminated area with soda, potato or corn starch. As soon as the opportunity arises, soak the soiled item in a solution of “Fairy” and hot water. In this case, dishwashing liquid can be additionally applied to the dirty area and lightly rubbed before soaking. After 10-15 minutes, wash in the same solution. Sometimes you need to rub for quite a long time - up to 15 minutes, but the dirt must come off.
- Mix turpentine and ammonia in equal parts and treat fresh stains with the resulting mixture. After half an hour, wash the clothes with any detergent.
Advice
If the stain is not washed off the first time, then the item cannot be ironed, otherwise it will be even more difficult to remove the orange pigment. It is better to immediately try a “stronger” product.
How to remove an old stain?
Old stains are more difficult to remove, since the fat has already been washed off from the clothes, and the pigment remains on the fabric. To remove it, our grandmothers used regular sunflower oil. Applied to fabric, it dissolves and absorbs the orange pigment. To ensure that sea buckthorn oil is washed off well, use your grandmother’s method with a modern interpretation.
- Prepare a solution: 100 g of washing powder, refined vegetable oil and bleach powder (such as “Persol” or “BOS”).
- Apply some of the solution to the contaminated area and rub a little.
- Add the remaining product to 10 liters of hot water and put clothes there for several hours, or overnight.
- After soaking, wash the item in the same water, wring it out and put it on a regular wash cycle or wash it by hand.
Advice
In this solution you can soak all stained items, poorly washed kitchen towels, and children's clothes with traces of berries.
Another means for removing sea buckthorn oil is potato starch with turpentine. Turpentine is added to the starch, the resulting slurry is generously applied to the sea buckthorn oil mark and left for several hours. Remove the dried mixture with purified gasoline (lighter gasoline is suitable). If the stain is not completely removed, rub it off with a piece of black stale bread. After this, the item is washed in the usual way.
Household chemicals
There are a wide variety of different bleaches and stain removers on sale that promise to remove berry stains. However, not all are suitable for washing off sea buckthorn oil. For example, oxygen bleaches in this case can only be an auxiliary agent, and by themselves will not cope with the problem. They lighten the pigment, but do not remove it.
Here are 3 proven stain removers.
- "Antipyatin."
Soap and powder are sold under this name. In this case, only soap is suitable. They need to lather the stain 5-10 minutes before washing and, without rinsing, put the item in the machine for normal washing. If the sea buckthorn has been on the fabric for a long time, lather it, after 5 minutes rub it well and wash it under running water, then lather it again.
- NixO2 OXi Activ.
Deals with fresh dirt with double treatment. The product is applied a few minutes before washing. The liquid is packaged in plastic spray bottles, so it is very easy to apply.
- Amway home SA8.
This spray is ideal for stains caused by sea buckthorn oil. It needs to be sprayed onto the stained area, and when a white mark remains at the spot, wash the clothes.
Some useful tips
Old stains may not be completely removed even when exposed to the most “thermonuclear” chemistry. Sometimes, as a result of all the efforts, a light orange blot remains on the fabric. On white clothes, it can be bleached with hydrogen peroxide. The contaminated area is generously moistened with it, and after 15 minutes, rinsed under running water. If necessary, repeat the procedure.
Stains from fabrics that are resistant to aggressive chemicals, such as cotton, can be removed with acetone. For other things, you can use non-acetone nail polish remover. It should be taken into account that as a result, the area where the chemical is applied may become discolored, so before use you need to test the product on an inconspicuous area.
thanks a lot
Laundry soap is super, lather, foam and rinse until completely clean. The oil leaves with foam. Thank you very much for the information you provided me.
Indeed, boiling water and soap helped to deal with a fresh stain on my favorite shirt! Thank you very much!
There are no words to express my gratitude for the advice! In my case, at home I found only potato starch and white spirit... All the stains from sea buckthorn oil disappeared! True, the smell spread throughout the entire apartment.. but this is nonsense... The main thing is clean laundry! I will recommend it to all my friends acquaintances
I washed the old stain with a solution of powder, oil and bleach. I no longer hoped to save the T-shirt from the stain. Thanks to the author of the article!
