Cleaning the kitchen floor with a steam cleaner: how I do it
Until recently, I naively believed that I could cope with cleaning the kitchen with an “A+”. But imagine my surprise when I tried cleaning the floor with a steam cleaner. The washed area differed significantly in color. It turns out that the entire area around was covered with a layer of fat mixed with dirt (no, no, I’m not dirty, and my eyesight is fine).

Water and chemicals do not cope with kitchen fat as well as we would like. Microscopic particles remain in seams, cracks and simply on the surface of the floor. It is difficult to notice plaque on the floor with the naked eye. Tile in the kitchen before and after washing with a steam cleaner:
Oddly enough, two areas turned out to be especially dirty: near the baseboards and under the kitchen furniture. Although, in theory, there was no way fat could get there (in our house it’s not customary to walk on the wall, and only a cat can crawl under the tables). I explain this only by the fact that the floor there was not washed as thoroughly as near the stove and in the center of the room.
How I wash the kitchen floor
Initially, a steam cleaner was purchased to clean carpets and furniture. Many people know firsthand how difficult it is to do this with your hands. Soon I began to practice steaming in the kitchen. Fortunately, the floor is tiled. Therefore, I had no doubt whether it could be washed with steam.
How I do it:
- My steam cleaner has a removable water tank (Karcher SC 2.600), so I remove it and fill it with tap water. Not cold, but hot. This saves time that the device spends on heating and evaporating the liquid.
- I plug in the device and start cleaning in a minute or two. At first, steam mixed with water comes out of the nozzle (while it is not yet heated up enough). But this does not reduce the effectiveness of floor cleaning at all.
- The floor must be free of debris and dust before cleaning with a steam cleaner! That is, you need to vacuum it first.
- If the tile seams are dirty, I first clean them with a steam cleaner without attachments. The steam comes under pressure and literally knocks grease and dirt out of them.
- Then I use the floor nozzle. I wrap it in a terry cloth and secure it with clamps. Then everything is as usual.
- Oh yes. If the rag gets very dirty while washing the floor, I simply turn it over or insert a new one. Then I wash all the rags in the washing machine.
The tank volume of my “friend” Karcher SC is 2,600 – 800 ml. The amount of water is just enough for 20-30 minutes of cleaning.
The steam cleaner, without exaggeration, divided my ointment into “before” and “after”. With it, I quickly clean the kitchen floor without a drop of chemicals. By the way, I also use it for laminate and linoleum, but I set the steam power to minimum. I know that many people write about the dangers of steam for these coatings. But I only noticed advantages. The floor did not swell, but only became perfectly clean. And what is the air like after cleaning with a steam cleaner! Moisturized, fresh.
