I clean the stove handles until they shine in 5 minutes: a recipe for a miracle paste

A few years ago we bought a new gas stove. The handles on it are not removable (at least, I thought so), so when cleaning I had to do a lot of wiggling. And so my torment would have continued if not for my friend’s advice. I tried to wash the grease off the stove handles with a homemade paste... It’s magic, there’s no other way to put it. After 5 minutes there was no trace left of the raid. Radiant purity.

To be honest, I have never placed big bets on homemade cleaning products. I cleaned the old stove “from head to toe” with my favorite chemical. Miracle chemistry. Caustic, effective, everything as it should be. It just removes all markings and decorative coating along with the grease.
I felt sorry for the new stove. I was afraid of spoiling the beauty, so I carefully washed the plastic parts with soapy water and Fairy. If the hands were really dirty, I added a little cleaning powder. It still took a long time. I casually complained to a friend. And she says:
“You need to pour a spoonful of baking soda into a small bowl. Add a couple of drops of hydrogen peroxide on top. Just a little to make a wet paste. Mix the whole thing with an old toothbrush and clean the stove handles.”

Without thinking twice, I tested the recipe. The handles of the stove were just asking for cleaning - they were very dirty.

Peroxide and soda were gathering dust in the closet, and there was also an old toothbrush.

Here's what I did:

  1. I poured baking soda into a bowl.
    soda in a bowl
  2. I also poured a little hydrogen peroxide there (by eye, so that it turns out to be a paste).
  3. I stirred it with an old toothbrush.

  4. I immediately rubbed my hands.

  5. I waited 5 minutes.

  6. She rubbed it again with the brush.
  7. Hooray! The greasy coating became soft and came off with light pressure. I simply removed the remaining yellowed paste with a cloth. The plastic became perfectly clean.

  8. I mixed more pastes than necessary. Therefore, I decided to wash the handles of the microwave and refrigerator. Needless to say, the homemade paste also worked “5+” here. It turned out that soda and peroxide dissolve fat perfectly. A worthy replacement for caustic chemicals!

What to do if the handles on the stove stick

By the way, about the “non-removable” handles. Still, on new slabs they are removed. I learned this from the master. They called him when the oven knob stopped turning. It turned out that this was all due to rare use and frozen fat inside. It is not visible from the outside. You just need to remove the cover.

This is done simply:

  1. We take the plastic ring of the stove handle (base) and move it slightly to the side.
  2. Insert the flat side of a spoon (fork) into the resulting gap.
  3. Insert the second spoon from the opposite side.
  4. We grab the spoons and, staggering, pull the handle of the stove towards us.

  5. All. The “fixed handle” has been removed. You can rub it with the same homemade paste of soda and peroxide or boil it for 5 minutes in soapy water.
  6. It is also easy to insert back - in one movement. The main thing is not to forget to put the spring back in place.
  7. The spring should be located here (between the base ring and the holder): removable plate handle

Why is it better not to remove them?

When I found out that the handles on my gas stove were removable, I was immediately happy. Boiling them is still easier than polishing them with paste, no matter how effective it is. But it was not there.

The master said that you should not remove the handles of the gas stove too often. This weakens the fastening.

If they become loose, you will have to buy new ones. In general, he advised doing a general cleaning no more than several times a year. The rest of the time, the plastic should be cleaned with a cleaning agent and a sponge or brush.

Advice. To prevent the handles of the gas stove from sticking, you need to turn them from time to time (once a week).

This advice is relevant for those who rarely use certain burners. For example, I cook in the oven once a month at most. Now I’ve gotten into the habit of turning the knobs back and forth when cleaning the stove. Nothing sticks anymore.
I really liked my friend's recipe. I use it regularly. Those who cook for a large family will understand me. The stove handles get dirty very quickly. Standing over them for half an hour several times a week is too troublesome. And with a homemade paste, I wiped everything off quickly. I repeat, an effective mixture of baking soda and peroxide was a discovery for me.
Before that I tried vinegar, alcohol, laundry soap and citric acid. They didn't pass the grease test. It still took some effort to clear the fat. Still, it is difficult to replace fat solvents. But, as it turned out, it is possible. I recommend this simple pasta to everyone. No one has spoken badly yet, they just say thank you.
