How to quickly clean hard-to-reach places on the glass lid of a pot or pan?
Some models of lids for frying pans and pots have hard-to-reach places - a metal lining and a steam hole. Over time, grease and plaque accumulate in them, which cannot be removed with a regular sponge.
How to clean the lids?
It is best to trust the dishwasher to clean the lids. Glass products withstand automatic washing very well. Jets of hot water penetrate wherever possible and effectively remove plaque and grease in hard-to-reach places. But not everyone has a dishwasher.
Manual cleaning of hard-to-reach places in the glass lid is carried out in two stages:
- Softening contamination.
- Mechanical removal.
How to soften grease and dirt?
Old fat becomes hard and firmly eats into the surface. Therefore, the first thing you need to do is soften it. For this you can use:
- Hydrogen peroxide. 3% peroxide should be poured under the rim of the lid and left for 10 minutes. The solution corrodes organic compounds, including plaque and grease. The steam hole can be cleaned using soaked cotton wool.
- Laundry soap and soda. They contain a lot of alkali, which copes well with fatty deposits. Place the lids in a large saucepan, add 5 tbsp. spoons of baking soda, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of laundry soap, 5 liters of water and boil over low heat for 15 minutes.
- Dish detergent and boiling water. Dishwashing detergents do a great job of softening old grease. It is enough just to use hotter water and increase the exposure time. Soak the glass lid of a frying pan or saucepan in boiling water with the addition of 1 tbsp. spoons of detergent. When the water has cooled, the product can be cleaned of fat in one motion.
Second stage: cleaning plaque from cracks and holes
After softening deposits in hard-to-reach places, removing them will not be difficult. Sprinkle the lid with baking soda. Use a tool that will reach into holes and crevices:
- Old toothbrush. Experienced housewives never throw it away, but transfer it to the kitchen. The mini brush does an excellent job of cleaning the space under the metal rim and other “difficult” places.
- Rag and knife. You need to wrap the edge of a strong knife with a rag, insert it under the rim and draw it 2-3 times around the circumference. All dirt will remain on the rag.
- Wooden skewer for kebabs. If you are afraid of scratching the surface with a metal knife, you can use a sharpened wooden stick instead.
Upon completion of the cleaning procedure, the lid remains to be rinsed and dried.
Brown plaque not only worsens the appearance of the lids, but also contains harmful substances. When cooked, they end up in food. Therefore, we need to fight it. The fastest way to clean hard-to-reach places is with hydrogen peroxide and a knife and rags. Fill the area under the rim with hydrogen peroxide and after 10 minutes, clean off the dirt with a knife wrapped in a cloth. All this will take you no more than 15 minutes.
We wash everything in the dishwasher with high-quality tablets…. Never had any problems...
I'm afraid to seem immodest. but the dishwasher cleans all the lids perfectly, and not only... it's such a relief!
Not everyone has a dishwasher, or are you talking about a specialty dishwasher?
In such cases, I use products for cleaning ovens from carbon deposits, which are sold in hardware departments of stores. The removers must be handled with care, as they represent a concentrated alkali solution, which easily dissolves hardened fat. It is advisable to use rubber gloves and cover your eyes with glasses. I use a toothbrush with synthetic bristles, since the natural alkali will simply dissolve. Good luck!
Of course there is a dishwasher, we have a 5.5 meter kitchen and we found a place to put it. This is such help in the household, and for those who have children, this is simply a necessity. You can save 1,000 rubles a month, and you can pay for a car in a year. Dream, set goals and everything will work out.
You just need to wash it properly right away, and there will be no problems later.
Absolutely, only the......noks have such problems, wash as soon as it cools down and children wash even better
Grease stains can be easily removed with the edge of a discount card, after first covering the surface with dishwashing detergent.
To devote a whole story to such a prosaic procedure as washing the lids, it is so boring to scrupulously retell every movement and convey your feelings from this process that after listening to it for so long, you no longer want to wash the lid. You can say all this in one minute and in two words. I remember Pushkin used to say that words should be cramped and thoughts should have space. I don’t like tediousness, but here I had to
Well, it’s hard to blame you for being short...

And why did you tap your finger for so long?! Did you show yourself to be smart?
Everything needs to be washed on time and not brought to shit
First, wash your brains. During the cooking process, fat gets under the rim at high temperatures, and if you wash it by hand, it is impossible to completely rinse it at 40-50 degrees. But you don’t have enough to understand the convolutions, you just see shit all around. What goes around comes around, don't forget that. Respect to the author, everything is detailed, convenient, and understandable.
Right!))
I completely agree
The lid has a very wide rim and I can only push the blade under it, but it’s impossible to clean, so I asked a question, but there really is so much “water” being poured in there but there’s no point. The lid is easy to clean.
The lids wash well in the dishwasher!!!
I want to share my experience as well. Let me make a reservation right away: it may not suit some people, because it is far from standard. We moved into my grandmother’s house, and she had a bunch of pots, pans and other stuff there. But they, excuse the expression, were all assholes)) I got tired of washing with improvised means, they spent too much time, and there was no way to install a dishwasher. My husband googled that you can wash dishes from carbon deposits, grease and everything else in the world in a special ultrasonic cleaner. The bottom line is this: this is a separate household appliance, you pour water, put the item in, turn on the ultrasound button and after 10 minutes take out a perfectly clean pot or frying pan.
I use Amway detergents and cleaning products! the products are incomparable, no effort required, in 15 minutes all the kitchen utensils are sparkling!
Doesn't require a lot of water for rinsing, and no harm to anyone's health! A little expensive but very economical, I'm delighted! I have been using this product for over 20 years
Everyone is so smart with dishwashers, thanks to the author for the advice, very practical! Not everyone has their own home and all the equipment with the bells and whistles!
That's exactly what it says. At least one adequate comment!
I completely agree
I dropped some anti-grease, twisted the lid and everything dissolved, worked with a brush. I do this periodically and everything is clean.
Hydrogen peroxide removed all the grease and dirt. Thanks to the author.
