Why I don’t wash my carpets at a car wash - a sad experience served as a lesson

I want to warn you. A couple of weeks ago I decided to take my carpets to a car wash. For 3 large carpets they calculated a fairly decent amount - 2532 rubles. Well, that’s okay, I thought, but the house will be much cleaner. As it turns out, I was very wrong.

The carpets were given to me completely covered with a decent layer of dust. The following response was given to my remark: “What did you want, roadway. Vacuum your home." But it turned out that dust is not the worst thing. I found a scattering of machine oil stains on one of the carpets. The workers categorically refused to return money for poor cleaning. They say they knew where they were going and should have foreseen all the risks.

Why are carpets and car washes incompatible?

Before this incident, I had never washed carpets in a car wash. But for some reason I was sure that the procedure was effective. Either my friends told me that everything went well, or I read it on the Internet. It’s a shame I didn’t study the topic thoroughly before taking this rash step.

After telling a colleague about the kind of carpets they gave me at the car wash, I heard this story from him:

“We have a grass carpet in our nursery - with long, thick pile. In addition, it is also light beige. You understand what he has become after many months of childhood games. Stains from paints, juice, or anything else were difficult to wash off by hand. And my wife offered to wash the carpet at a car wash.

We ordered a delivery service. For an additional fee, they picked up and delivered the carpet themselves.When asked whether the stains would disappear, we were assured: with Karcher the stains have no chance. Since the pile is long, we were calculated the cost of washing at the highest price.

It's time for the carpet to come back. Instead of fluffy grass, we saw something resembling the matted fur of a poodle. We were never able to restore the pile. The money was also not returned, although we wrote complaints. Since then, I only wash my car at the car wash.”

After asking others I know, I heard a lot of negative reviews about carpet cleaning at a car wash. By the way, we are not talking about one specific place. People used the service in different parts of the city. But often the outcome was disastrous. I understood the following: At a car wash there is a much higher chance of ruining a carpet than cleaning it. A high-pressure apparatus spoils the backing and pile, and when drying outside, the products become covered with street dust, dirt and oil from cars.

If you do use a car wash to clean your carpet, which one should you use?

A car wash is the last place you should go to get your carpets cleaned. For this purpose, there are special dry cleaners and cleaning companies that use special chemicals and equipment. They are in every relatively large city.

In small towns where this type of service is not provided, a car wash can be a solution if the carpet is very dirty. For example, if there is mold on it, traces of urine, etc.

But then you need to approach the choice of institution thoroughly:

• The car wash should be located away from a busy roadway - in an alley or at least behind a high fence. It is especially important that there is no railway nearby and there are no “dusty” industrial enterprises.
• Choose a car wash that has a drying chamber.There are actually a lot of such sinks. They dry carpets not on the street, but in a special machine. Therefore, you don’t have to worry about settling of dust and dirt.

Before you take your carpet to a car wash, it is important to make sure that it will survive the procedure. Pay attention to the type of base. If it is adhesive or the pile is long, it is better not to risk it.

The sad experience served me as a lesson. I no longer wash my carpets at a car wash. At a family meeting, it was decided to use special foam cleaning products. And if the condition becomes completely deplorable, call specialists from a cleaning company. I hope my story will be useful to someone and warn against a fatal mistake.
