My method for cleaning mattresses that removes germs, mites, dead skin

Do you remember how your mother cleaned the mattress when you were a child? I covered it with a damp sheet and beat it with a beater for a long, long time... I found a much simpler and more effective way. You need to take a pack of soda and a vacuum cleaner.

Cleaning a mattress with baking soda

Cleaning your mattress is easy

Sleeping in a clean bed is not only pleasant, but also necessary for our health.

Particles of dead skin accumulate in bedding, which, in turn, provide food for germs and dust mites.

They settle not only on bed linen, but also on the mattress. To prevent the mattress from turning into a breeding ground for diseases, you need to carry out a general cleaning at least once every six months. I know some people use dry cleaning services. However, this pleasure is not cheap and not everyone can afford it.

My method of cleaning mattresses is simple and affordable. It does not require drying. The event takes at most 15 minutes of active action.

3 steps to clean a mattress with baking soda

3 steps to purity and freshness

It's no secret that baking soda has disinfectant properties. It kills bacteria and cleanses. It also perfectly absorbs foreign odors. Cleaning a mattress with baking soda is easy.

What am I doing:

  • Step 1. I take off the bed linen and mattress cover. I shift the mattress onto the floor (I find it more comfortable this way). I vacuum it thoroughly on both sides. This removes most of the dust.
  • Step 2. I take a pack of soda and sprinkle it on the mattress. It is very important to distribute it evenly over the entire surface. After that, I wait from half an hour to several hours.Baking soda neutralizes harmful bacteria and absorbs odors.
  • Step 3. I turn on the vacuum cleaner again and collect all the soda. Together with it, the mattress leaves the remains of dirt, skin particles, mites and other “nasty things”.

After cleaning, the mattress can be taken out to the balcony and left there for a couple of hours. Moving air and sunlight finally neutralize harmful microorganisms accumulated inside.

To distribute the baking soda over the surface of the mattress, I use a sieve. I break up all the lumps with my fingers. As a result, the soda powder evenly covers the fabric, and it cleans more effectively.

Removing stains

You need to understand that dry soda will not remove stains on fabric. If you accidentally spill coffee or something else on your bed, only liquid cleaning compounds will help.

Among the homemade recipes, I have selected the following for myself:

  • 1 teaspoon of ammonia in half a glass of water. The solution perfectly removes traces of coffee, blood and iodine.
  • Medical alcohol. Saves from greasy stains and traces of cosmetics. You need to soak a cotton pad in alcohol and rub the stained area.
  • 1 tbsp. a spoonful of baking soda, coarse table salt, citric acid and water. The paste gets rid of old stains. It is applied in a thick layer, rubbed in, and after drying, collected with a vacuum cleaner.

After removing stains, the fabric should be washed with a sponge soaked in soapy water. To make the mattress dry faster, I walk over it with a dry towel and dry it with a hairdryer.

Clean mattress on the bed

A clean sleeping place is the key to healthy sleep and good rest. The updated mattress exudes freshness, and falling asleep on it is a pleasure. What is important is that my method of cleaning with soda does not require any financial investment. Of course, it does not replace dry cleaning. But if you take personal hygiene responsibly, you won’t need chemicals.
