An antistatic agent is a substance that prevents the long-term retention of static electrical charges on the surface of objects. It retains moisture and thereby increases the concentration of ions. When applied to the floor, clothing, furniture, and bedspreads, the antistatic agent prevents surfaces from sticking to each other, as well as dust from adhering.
There are different types of antistatic agents. Some are produced separately for the treatment of clothing, others are included in detergents and fabric softeners. Substances with an antistatic effect are often added to household chemicals for cleaning floors and glass.
List of detergents with antistatic agents for cleaning the house:
- Mebelux furniture polish;
- furniture care product “Chirton Anti-dust”;
- Emsal furniture cleaner with antistatic agent;
- universal antistatic agent “Every day”;
- carpet and upholstery cleaner “Cinderella” with antistatic effect;
- Prosept Multipower Neutral cleaner for all types of floors with antistatic effect;
- Carpet cleaner “Carpet + antistatic”.
Antistatic agents for furniture add drop by drop onto a paper towel or rag, and then vigorously rub the surface to be treated. Cleaning products for carpets and furniture are carried out directly, after diluting them with water. Universal antistatic agents can be used to treat curtains, bedspreads, plastic windows, and other items in the house. By choosing special household chemicals, you can significantly reduce the concentration of dust in the house and the rate at which it settles.
Cleaning correctly is important!
Dust repellents only help when used correctly. First of all, you need to learn how to clean consistently.
How to wipe off dust correctly?
- You should move from top to bottom. First you need to wipe the chandeliers, baguettes, cabinets, and then the furniture and floor. If you do the opposite, dust from the upper tiers will fall down and cover already processed objects.
- You need to use a slightly damp cloth - this will collect dust most effectively. If you wipe it with a wet cloth, streaks will remain; if you use a dry cloth, dust particles will scatter throughout the room.
- Before wet cleaning, dry cleaning is carried out. You must first sweep the floor, vacuum the carpets and furniture. Then there will be fewer suspended particles in the air, and surfaces can be wiped clean.
To prevent dust particles from flying around the room, close the windows and doors while cleaning, turn off the air conditioner and fan that create a draft.
Efficient devices and special equipment
Special cleaning supplies and household appliances help combat dust in your apartment. Let's list the most effective ones:
- Wipes with antistatic effect. First of all, they are designed to eliminate dust and static electricity from screens and various types of equipment.But they can also be used to wipe cabinets, shelves, mirrors and other surfaces.
- Microfiber cloths. It is best to collect dust and prevent it from flying around the room.
- Vacuum cleaner. A universal device for dust control. Devices with various attachments, washing devices, and a steam generator help eliminate it especially effectively. They are able to clean hard-to-reach places, deep layers of fabric, upholstered furniture, carpets, toys.
- Washers and air purifiers. Devices designed to filter air also collect dust. They trap harmful particles inside themselves, as a result of which you have to clean the apartment less often. Some varieties even have a dust sensor, in particular Xiaomi Mi Air Purifier 2.
It is important to regularly clean your vacuum cleaner and change the air purifier filter. Otherwise, dirt will fly out of the device.

Preventing dust
Many people have probably noticed that in some houses dust practically does not appear, while in others they have to deal with it almost every day. The speed of its appearance largely depends on the height of the floor, the dustiness of the city, and the proximity of the road. There is always more dust on the first floor, and less on the last floor. To reduce its amount in the apartment, preventive measures should be taken:
- Keep windows closed. Most of the dust comes from the street. Ventilate the apartment several times a day, but do not keep the windows open all the time.
- Wipe horizontal surfaces regularly. Most of the dust settles on them. If it is not removed in time, it will fly apart and dust the entire space.
- Throw away the junk. The accumulation of various things, especially old and crumbling ones, is one of the main reasons for dust in the house. Not only are they difficult to wipe, but they themselves gradually turn into dust.
- Carpets, soft toys, souvenirs, artificial flowers are known dust collectors. If possible, get rid of them or wash them well 2-3 times a month.
- Use cabinets and racks with doors. It is better to keep small items, books and other things closed. It is much easier to wipe down a closet than to wash clothes or wipe every souvenir or book.
- Brush your pet. Do not forget that the wool becomes electrified and becomes covered with dust particles. If you brush your dog or cat in a timely manner, there will be less dust in the house.
- Plant indoor flowers. Plants attract dust, purifying the air. The particles are absorbed by the flower, and the residues settle on the leaves.
Many people doubt what is the correct way to say: wipe or wipe off the dust? Dust is wiped from the surface, and the surface is wiped free of dust.
Dust in an apartment is not only unsightly, but also harmful to health. Dust mites, microbes, and viruses love to live in it. It causes allergies and respiratory diseases. Therefore, it is important to be able to wipe dust correctly. Follow the recommendations given above, use special tools and equipment. Then the house will delight you with cleanliness and freshness for a long time.

It turns out))) I cleaned correctly.
Beating out the carpet on the balcony... The neighbors will thank you!
The dispersed phase of dust has already settled in the form of particles on the surface of the furniture. She's already settled! Where can they hang in the air? I wish everyone to ventilate the room so as not to inhale highly dispersed aerosol!)))
There is much less dust in the bedroom if you thoroughly dry the bed linen (duvet covers on both sides) before washing. Especially on the current cotton bed linen there is a lot of thread dust, it’s just like a cloud when you blow it out. Previously, Soviet cotton fabrics were much smaller, the threads were made of better quality and twisted more firmly, such underwear could be used for years. Now calico is made less often than calico; the fabric is useless, either ours or imported (with rare exceptions).
I agree with you completely. When you change your bed linen, you just wonder where all the dust comes from.
if the dust does not settle on the surface, it flies in the air and we breathe it. Dust must settle on the surface...otherwise it’s a disaster
That's it for sure
When you vacuum, you need to open all the windows in the apartment, after that it turns out very fresh in the rooms, then walk the mop across the floor, and then close it. And there will be no suspended particles!
Thanks again for the amazingly simple tips!
Great tips. Now I vacuum first, then wipe off the dust with a damp cloth and finally wash the floors. Previously, I started with dusting. And after I vacuum the dust on the furniture again. Now there is no such thing.
