It was this fact that gave rise to sales of the same name - in the spring of 1970, one of the stores in Pennsylvania decided to organize a day of discounts and set it for March 13th - Friday. Advertising signs of that time, calling on people to come and buy goods at great profit, played on the theme of misfortune in every possible way - for example, they depicted a black cat.

In subsequent years, other stores picked up the idea of ​​holding sales. Already in 1975, Black Friday was scheduled not for spring, but for autumn - immediately after Thanksgiving.This was done for a reason, but with the expectation that during the preparation for the Christmas holidays, customers would be willing to spend more money on gifts, home decorations, groceries and other goods. The idea was justified, so from then to this day discounts begin on the Friday following the fourth Thursday in November.
