Is it possible to wash something that is painted with water-dispersion paint?

You can wash water-dispersion paint without the risk of damaging the coating if the painted surface is completely dry. In this case, a polymer film is formed on it, which allows air to pass through well, reliably protects from damage and is not afraid of water. The dispersion material is colorfast and dries quickly, so it is often used during repairs for various needs.

Water-dispersion paint

What is water-based paint?

The composition of water-dispersion paint includes synthetic polymers based on petroleum or resin. That is, it consists of solid microparticles that float in a liquid medium. The composition also contains film-forming components, pigments and substances that improve performance properties. The solvent is ordinary water. The material has no specific odor and is considered environmentally friendly and safe for health.

There are several types of water-dispersion paints:

  • polyvinyl acetate;
  • acrylic;
  • latex.

Any of these materials is easy to apply, breathable and does not crack. Paints are sold in plastic or iron sealed cans. There is a thick mass inside. After opening the package, the paint is thoroughly stirred and diluted with water to the desired consistency. When applied to the wall, the water gradually evaporates. A durable film is formed that is resistant to moisture and temperature.

Washing a painted wall

How to wash painted walls?

A surface painted with a water-dispersion material will not deteriorate from frequent washing if done correctly. Follow simple recommendations, otherwise there is a chance that the paint will lose its shine ahead of time and begin to become shiny.

To clean, you will need a soft bristle brush, detergent without abrasive particles and cotton wipes.

Having prepared everything you need, proceed as follows:

  1. Wet the wall generously with water and leave for 3 minutes.
  2. Apply detergent to the brush and scrub the wall, creating a rich lather.
  3. Rinse the brush under water and remove any remaining foam and dirt from the painted surface.
  4. Use a damp cloth to clean the wall, avoiding intense rubbing, and wait until it is completely dry.

To clean the walls less often from stubborn dirt, periodically remove dust from them with a vacuum cleaner and gently wipe with a damp cloth.

Removing paint stains from the floor

How to clean water-dispersion paint after repair?

During repairs, it is easy to accidentally stain the floor, windows, and doors with a water-dispersive product. If trouble occurs, act immediately.

While the stain from water-dispersion paint has not dried, it is washed off with cool water:

  1. Dampen a rag made of natural fabric and thoroughly rub the blot.
  2. When the stain is washed off, change the napkin and wash the surface again using detergent.

Mechanical cleaning

If the spilled material has dried, you will have to work hard to clean it up:

  1. First, wet the sponge and apply it to the stain for 2 hours. During this time the paint will swell.
  2. Carefully pry it up with a spatula and try to clean the surface. Work carefully to avoid scratching walls, windows or furniture.
  3. Finally, rinse the area with water and dry.

Remover for water-based paint

Chemical cleaning

An old stain from water-based dispersion paint can be removed using chemicals. Specialized stores sell removers for quick and high-quality dissolution of the material. To use the product, clean the surface of dirt.

Then proceed like this:

  1. Use a brush or sponge to apply remover to the stain.
  2. Wait 3-10 minutes.
  3. Remove loose paint with a spatula.
  4. Rinse the surface several times.

When working with the remover, do not forget about safety precautions:

  • Be sure to wear latex gloves on your hands.
  • Before you begin cleaning, open a window for ventilation.
  • Avoid vapors entering the respiratory tract.
  • If the cleaner gets on your skin, wash it with running water.

The following washes have worked well:

  • Docker S5
  • "Fail-1"
  • "Fail-3".
