Why do I rub a clove of garlic on my plate?

Each housewife has her own secrets and tricks that help surprise her family and guests. My “trick” is a plate rubbed with a clove of garlic. Why am I doing this? I'll tell you now.

Woman eating garlic

Spicy without bad breath

Garlic is a controversial seasoning. I, like many of my friends, have mixed feelings about him. Garlic is both loved and hated at the same time. On the one hand, it has a pleasant pungent taste and bright aroma. On the other hand, it leaves behind a trail of bad breath.

By rubbing garlic on a plate, I add piquancy to salads, cutlets and other dishes. They are saturated with a light garlic aroma that excites the appetite.

At the same time, there are no negative effects after the meal. The portion of garlic on the plate is too small to cause an unpleasant aftertaste.

New taste for boring dishes

Everyone in our family works. Therefore, I have to cook two or even three days in advance. Naturally, few people like to eat monotonous food. Already on the second day, the hand stops reaching for the seemingly delicious cutlets. But! I found a way out of this situation for myself.

Bored dishes begin to play with new colors if you serve them on a plate rubbed with garlic.

Garlic refreshes yesterday's food and imbues it with a subtle aroma. It’s impossible not to guess with the portion of seasoning. But! If the plate is heated or a very hot dish is placed on it, the smell will be stronger.

How do I polish plates?

Everything is very simple.I think many people remember how in childhood they rubbed the edge of black bread with garlic. In the 90s this was a common delicacy. In order for the garlic to give off its pungency and aroma, the clove was bitten and the crust was rubbed with all your heart.

You need to separate the clove from the head, cut it in half and rub the cut on the surface of the plate.

For convenience, I prick the clove on a fork. There is no need to rub for a long time or too hard - just a few seconds and light pressure are enough. If I need to grate several plates, I refresh the cut and then use the other half of the clove.

Dishes that go with a garlic plate

What dishes is a “garlic plate” suitable for?

This culinary trick with garlic can be used both daily and for serving holiday dishes.

Rubbing a plate with a garlic clove will help save bland borscht or tasteless cutlets, in which for some reason they forgot to put spices.

It's no secret that it is correct to add garlic during the cooking process. If you season already cooked borscht with it, the taste and aroma will be too strong. While the “garlic plate” smells weak and unobtrusive.

What dishes do I use this life hack for:

  • Mashed potatoes. The most common side dish is so versatile that it is served with any type of meat and fish. Our family also loves these potatoes very much. The mashed potatoes seem especially tasty if you grease the plate with garlic before serving.
  • Salads. Pieces of fresh garlic give too strong a taste. So for salad dressings, I either use garlic oil or just rub a clove on the plate.
  • Hot sandwiches and toast. The aroma of garlic and the smell of toasted bread with bacon and cheese is the best combination in my opinion.
  • Grilled vegetables. Sweet peppers, eggplants, tomatoes, zucchini harmonize perfectly with garlic.
  • Spaghetti. One of my favorite combinations is Italian pasta with seafood and garlic. But, as you understand, I rub the spice on the plate, and do not put chopped garlic in the dish.
  • Meat. It is believed that garlic goes best with lamb. But there are no restrictions for the “garlic plate”. I serve baked duck, pork knuckle, chicken chops, and boiled pork on it.

The “Garlic Plate” can be used to serve almost any dish – both the second and the first. This culinary trick will decorate borscht, cream soup, cutlets, vegetable casseroles...

By adding garlic directly to dishes, you are taking some risks. Not everyone loves or eats it. For example, my son will never touch borscht with garlic, but from the “garlic plate” he eats it on both cheeks. Grinding dishes is a matter of seconds. But what a pleasure flavorful food brings! A clove of garlic can spice up almost any dish. I have been using this culinary trick for a very long time and often. By the way, the family doesn’t know anything about her. You are the first with whom I shared my secret.
