This is why I never throw away mayonnaise buckets
For some, plastic containers are trash, but for me they are a real treasure. I don't throw away mayonnaise buckets. I thoroughly clean each of them and then use them around the house. And if I have free time, I decorate.
For gardening and construction work
In large (3-10 liters) buckets I dilute paint, whitewash, and insect repellent. It’s a shame to dirty a good bucket for these purposes. But there is no mayonnaise packaging.
Also, when we were doing renovations, my husband made a cyclone out of a bucket: he inserted corners into the lid, connected a vacuum cleaner and very quickly removed all the construction debris.
Storage buckets
Plastic mayonnaise buckets are a universal storage container. Unlike cardboard boxes, they are easy to clean. Thanks to the tightly closing lid, things are not covered with dust, food does not absorb foreign odors, and cereals are reliably protected from moths.
In these buckets I store:
- flour and cereals;
- wool threads;
- materials for creativity: napkins, ropes, ribbons, fabrics, beads;
- seeds;
- hair decorations along with combs;
- opened packages of milk, yogurt, kefir (in the refrigerator).
To make the boxes look stylish and presentable, I decorate them. The surface must first be degreased with alcohol. And then the buckets can be painted, twine, foamiran, and ribbons can be glued on.
Flower pot or flowerpot
Unusual flower pots are my passion.Basically, I just decorate the buckets and poke holes at the bottom with an awl to remove excess moisture.
Since the pots are in contact with water, materials for decoration should be chosen that are moisture-resistant. My favorite option is a seashell planter. To make it, you need to mix cement with PVA glue in a ratio of 3:1, dilute with water to the consistency of sour cream. Then cover the low-fat bucket with a thick layer of the mixture. Quickly lay out the shells and let them harden.
Instead of a food tray
Since our family started buying mayonnaise in buckets, I stopped spending money on food containers.
Mayonnaise boxes are very convenient:
- marinate vegetables, shish kebab;
- salt fish, mushrooms;
- take food with you to a picnic or work;
- freeze greens and berries.
Original lamp
I have long dreamed of making a decorative lamp for the garden. And here the mayonnaise bucket came in handy.
First I cut old disks into pieces. I covered a plastic bucket (transparent). Then I punched a hole in the bottom and inserted a cartridge with a wire. To prevent the edges of the bucket from melting, I use an energy-saving lamp.
Garden decoration
If there are a lot of mayonnaise buckets, you can put a border on the sides of the path (I have one in my plans for now). Or make a charming flowerbed. To do this, you need to paint the buckets and dig a little into the ground, lining them up in a semicircle (butterfly, flower). I plant marigolds, daisies, and petunias in pots, and in the middle I grow peonies, irises, tulips and asters.
In the garden you can display decorative flowerpots or make shapes from buckets and lids: mushrooms, butterflies, the sun.
Bird feeders
Even if you don't like any of the ideas, don't throw away your mayonnaise buckets. They will help save the lives of birds. Make a feeder. To do this, just cut a hole in the side and pour unsalted raw seeds or cereal inside. Hang the bucket by the handle on a branch. Don't forget to cover it with a lid - it will protect the food from getting wet.
This is how I put mayonnaise buckets to good use. I do the same with buckets of sour cream, ice cream, and cotton candy. I hope you liked my collection of ideas.
I really liked the ideas! Thank you.
