I forgot about the unpleasant smell in the kitchen: simple sorting of garbage into 2 buckets helped

A friend advised me to put potato peelings and seeds in a separate bag. The life hack for sorting waste immediately took root in our family. It turned out to be very convenient. Forgot about the unpleasant smell in the kitchen. We also don't buy trash bags anymore.

We sort the garbage into 2 buckets

All my life I lived with the belief that garbage was something smelly, dirty and disgusting. It is advisable to take it out 1-2 times a day, and even more often in the summer. Each time the bag turned out to be quite impressive. And all because everything in a row flew into the bucket: plastic bottles, peelings, leftover food from a plate, cola cans, egg trays, etc. There was no understanding that garbage was different from garbage.

Food waste quickly deteriorates and begins to emit an unpleasant aroma. But if you think about it, their volume in the trash can is negligible. By mixing leftover food with bottles and all kinds of packaging, we ourselves increase the amount of “dirt.”

Now I do it differently. I put cleanings and anything that could go bad in a separate small bucket.

The algorithm of actions is simple:

  1. Instead of one trash can, we have two in the kitchen.
    two buckets
  2. We sort waste into buckets.
  3. We cover a small bucket with a T-shirt bag or any other. We throw only food scraps into it: half-eaten porridge, bones, rotten fruit, etc.
  4. When we go outside, we take the trash out of the small bucket with us.We throw it into a trash container or trash can. It’s even easier for residents of private houses. They can leave waste to rot in a compost pit.
  5. We put everything else into a large bucket: unnecessary bottles of drinks, household chemicals, cardboard packaging, trays, etc. Before throwing the container into the bucket, rinse it and crush it. Then there will be no smell from the bucket. From the word absolutely.

The Three C Rule

I've heard about waste sorting for a long time. Many famous personalities advocate putting garbage in different bags and then throwing it into special bins. It is suggested to store the “goods” on the balcony or in the pantry. It's a useful thing, of course. But such methods are definitely not for our family. Our apartment is small, and my husband and I work until late in the evening. There is no time and nowhere to disassemble and store waste.
As it turns out, there is another, simpler and more convenient method with 2 containers.

Home sorting is limited only by compliance with the three “C” rule:

  1. Rinse.
  2. Dry.
    disposable food container
  3. Flatten.
    rolled plastic

That is, we wash, dry and crush everything that is intended for trash can number “2”.
municipal solid waste

This saves space and prevents unpleasant odors and mold. It’s not difficult to follow the rule – it takes longer to describe. Very soon the attitude towards “garbage” will change dramatically.

Most of what we throw away is not garbage, but recyclables!

Rinse a soda bottle at home – 3 seconds. After that she doesn't smell anything. Having served its purpose, the bottle will go to the factory, where it will be made into plastic furniture, a scoop, a bucket or something else.

What to do next with solid waste?

My husband and I take solid waste from container 2 to the nearest recycling collection point. We sort it there: we separate cardboard, plastic, aluminum, etc.

In principle, we do not use bins for separate waste collection.

  • Firstly, the garbage from the collection point will definitely not go to a general landfill, but will be recycled.
  • Secondly, it is much more convenient to sort household waste on site. At home there are only two buckets, not 5 or 10, as some people have.

It takes a little time. We spend an hour and a half on one trip, including sorting. There may be one or several such trips per month. It all depends on how quickly the large bucket is filled. As a nice bonus, you are paid for sorted recyclables. Counted in kilograms. Different waste is valued differently. On average, it costs about 100-200 rubles for everything. Yes a little. But we do not pursue the goal of making a fortune from waste. We spend the little money we get on ice cream for the children.
Sorting into two buckets has made our life easier in many ways. A small bag of food waste is taken out regularly 1-2 times a day. There is no problem to take it with you when you go to the store. It fits easily into any trash can. Huge garbage bags are forgotten like a bad dream. But the main thing is different. We began to produce half as much garbage. Having seen how much space packaging takes up, my husband and I stopped buying food in bulk containers (eggs, cookies, sliced \u200b\u200bin trays, etc.). It's nice to know that you care about your big home - the planet, and set a good example for children.
