How to sharpen a blender blade at home using eggshells

The solution to everyday problems sometimes lies on the surface. For example, you can sharpen a blender with egg shells, which we usually throw away. The method is ideal for housewives who have to do everything themselves, as it does not require special skills or additional tools.

During operation, the edge of the knife inevitably loses its sharpness. The more often you use a blender, the faster the cutting surfaces will become dull. Can I continue to use a chopper with a dull blade? Theoretically, yes, the blender will still grind food.

However, in this case, the load on the motor increases, the bearings wear out faster, because the equipment in such a situation will only do its job efficiently at a higher speed. How often the knife becomes dull depends on how often you use the blender. With intensive use, you will notice after 1-1.5 years that the products begin to be crushed longer.

First you will need to dig up the shells from boiled eggs. Place it in a plastic bag and store it in the freezer until use. You can also use raw shells; before storing them, they are washed under the tap and cleared of the membrane. For one sharpening you will need the shells of 10 eggs.

  1. Remove the eggshells from the freezer and place them in the blender jar.
  2. Turn on the device, selecting medium speed.
  3. Sharpen the knife for about 1 minute.
  4. Turn off the device, pour the resulting powder from the bowl.
  5. Rinse the blender thoroughly.

Now the knife is sharp again and ready for further work. Despite its simplicity, the method has proven itself and is already used by many.

The described sharpening method has two advantages. As a result, you will not only get sharp blades, but also eggshell powder, which can be used in the household:

  1. Fertilizer for the garden. For 1 sq. m, 300 g of powder is consumed. This fertilizing will enrich the soil with calcium, iron, phosphorus, silicon, zinc, and copper.
  2. Feeding indoor plants. Dissolve 1 tbsp. l. crushed shells in 1 liter of warm water and let it brew for a day. Water your indoor plants with the resulting solution, they will thank you.
  3. Bleach. White egg shells can be used as a natural bleach for white laundry. After grinding, it is poured into a linen bag and placed in the drum of the washing machine before washing.

Eggshells are also suitable for cosmetic procedures. For example, it can be used to prepare a mask by mixing it in equal proportions with raw protein. The composition is applied to the skin of the face, allowed to dry and then washed off. The mask helps exfoliate dead particles of the epidermis and enriches the skin layer with minerals.

How can I make my blender stay sharp longer?

Manufacturers of kitchen appliances suggest operating them according to the rules so that the appliances do not fail longer. Blender blades will remain sharp for a long time if:

  • Before chopping meat, remove even small bones and cartilage from it;
  • avoid accidentally getting cherries and grapes into the thicket along with their seeds;
  • During food processing, add a little liquid (water, milk, butter).

To crush ice, you will need a device with a power of at least 1000 W. Low-power models are only suitable for making cocktails, yoghurts, batters, and beating eggs.

A blender, like any other device, does not forgive careless treatment. If you operate this equipment according to the rules, it will have to be repaired and replaced much less frequently. Quick and easy sharpening by grinding eggshells will help restore the sharpness of your blades.
