Make money from junk: where to remove old furniture from your apartment and who will do it for you?

Removing old furniture from your apartment is not that difficult. All you need to do is disassemble it, take it outside and load it into your car. But where to take it is unclear. To dump old tables and sofas in a city landfill, you need to pay a lot of money, in addition, the nearest landfill can be located several hundred kilometers away. Throwing away trash in a secluded alley is also not free; for such a violation of public order there is a fine. However, there are alternative options - using them, you can not only get rid of unnecessary things, but also make money.

Option 1 - sell “as is”

As practice shows, even furniture in very poor condition does not have to be sent for recycling - it quickly finds new owners. The main thing is not to try to sell a sagging chair for the price of a new soft corner. What you consider junk can be repaired by other people (upholstered with new fabric, repainted, decorated) and used for its intended purpose.

Rare and antique items can be offered to connoisseurs of antiquity. In this case, the price tag will rise from two to three hundred “for juice and chocolate” to several tens of thousands. Naturally, the better the furniture is preserved, the more they will offer for it.

The easiest way to find potential buyers is in the following ways:

• Hang a notice on the entrance door about the sale of old furniture - most likely, one of the neighbors will like it, and this will solve the problem.
• Place an ad in the local newspaper - despite the fact that the Internet is penetrating deeper and deeper into our lives, representatives of the older generation still prefer to learn about everything from the printed press.
• Place an ad on boards like Avito or Yula. It is advisable to supplement it with photographs so that people can see the real condition of the furniture and not waste their time or yours.
• Tell everyone you know - verbally and through social networks - that you plan to sell old furniture items. Even if they don’t need anything, they may know people who have spent their entire lives dreaming of decoupaging just such a table or putting up a sideboard in their dacha that you dream of getting rid of.

Option 2 - recycle

It doesn’t matter what material the furniture is made of, there is always a place where you can sell it. True, it is unlikely that it will be possible to add everything at the same time - cabinets, tables, and chairs. Before taking things to a recycling collection point, you should disassemble them (literally - into small parts) and sort them.

• Metal parts - hinges, hinges, springs, etc. - must be folded separately. If possible, it is also worth dividing by type of metal - ordinary steel (ferrous metal), copper, aluminum, stainless steel.
• Everything made of wood (sofa armrests, doors, bottoms and walls of cabinets, table tops) must also be disposed of separately. Since after processing they will be used to make briquettes and pellets for heating, the fabric upholstery and foam rubber will have to be removed.
• Plastic furniture will get a second life in the form of construction bags, garbage bags and sewer pipes. For its use as a recyclable material, the absence of foreign impurities is also important.
• In some cities, rags are also accepted - such collection points can offer upholstery fabric, but, as a rule, there is not much of it left, so it is not profitable to take it anywhere. It is much easier to take the waste into a regular container - this is not prohibited by law.

If you don’t set yourself the goal of making money and are happy to just get rid of old furniture, you can offer it to funds that help the poor and those affected by natural disasters - in a crisis situation, what seems like rubbish to you will serve these people good service. Another option is to talk to workers from a construction site nearby. Most likely, their shed lacks a table or chairs or a sofa.
