Is it possible to wash photo wallpaper and how to do it correctly

Photo wallpapers are a great decorative addition to your home, but can they be washed? The difficulty of maintenance depends on the material from which the wall covering is made. Paper wallpapers are unlikely to withstand washing, but self-adhesive and vinyl wallpapers will respond positively to cleaning with water.

Is it possible to wash photo wallpaper: types

Any photo wallpaper will need care sooner or later, but not every type can be soaked. So, the simplest paper wallpaper with pictures is best wiped from dust with a dry cloth, in extreme cases resorting to a damp (not wet!) cloth, or better yet, a soft eraser.

If everything is clear with thin single-layer wallpapers, then double (duplex) ones can be carefully washed with soap suds - except for embossed ones. It is better not to wet these so as not to lose their shape.

Vinyl-coated photo wallpapers are tolerant to moisture (but not to an abundance of water). It is allowed to carefully wipe textile types of decor with a damp cloth. And the easiest wallpaper to wash is self-adhesive. They are covered with a special film that protects them from moisture and also allows you to quickly remove complex stains such as felt-tip pens.

The magazine purity-en.htgetrid.com advises washing wallpaper with photos with a slightly damp sponge, rather than giving it a full shower. This can cause them to soften and move away from the walls.

How to wash: approach wisely

We tell you how to wash different types of photo wallpaper:

  1. To begin with, it is better to clean textile wallpaper with a soft brush, or go over the wall with a vacuum cleaner with a special attachment. To remove local stains, soak a piece of microfiber or flannel in cool water and gently wipe the mark. Do not overuse so as not to leave streaks. Bonus from textiles - individual “surprises” can be removed with a stain remover.
  2. Also start cleaning vinyl wallpaper with a vacuum cleaner, and leave any visible dirt with a damp sponge soaked in a simple soap solution (any bar without fragrances or dyes will do).
  3. Wash self-adhesive photo wallpapers with water and soap suds.

Advice
Before buying photo wallpaper, think in advance what kind of impact it faces? If there are small children with artistic talents in the house, then you should think about self-adhesive wallpaper with increased protection. Textile ones, and especially simple paper ones, will not last long.

Take care of any type of photo wallpaper so that it does not lose its decorative properties ahead of time. Always start with dry cleaning and read the manufacturer's care recommendations.
