How to keep your kitchen drawers perfectly organized and not throw anything away
Content:
Various necessary devices and products clutter up the space more than we would like. For order to truly reign, you need competent organization of space!
Where to begin?
We will not advise you to disassemble all the kitchen drawers at once. The mess that arises in the process will quickly discourage you from engaging in useful but painstaking organization. There is a possibility that at the end of the work all the items will be folded “somehow.”
Forget about the “somehow” and “neat” folding method. Each item should have its own specially designated place in the closets.
It is important to follow the rules:
- Accessories and products are kept in close proximity to the surface on which they are used. Pans, pots, cereals, spices - by the stove, detergents and sponges - by the sink, etc.
- Everything unnecessary is gone. Unused equipment has a place on the mezzanine (at the dacha). It is better to move the preserved food to the pantry.
- The less often, the farther. Items and products that are taken out of drawers only “on holidays” should be placed in the depths of the set.
- Organizers, shelves and dividers are our everything. In the modern world, it is difficult to do without these helpers.They help organize the many objects that we use today.
We divide the kitchen space into zones
First of all, you will need a plan for organizing your space. You need to visually divide the kitchen into 5 zones:
- products;
- washing;
- plate;
- technique;
- useful little things.
We will work on each zone separately - unload it and rebuild it. Be prepared to need organizers. For lack of funds, you can make them yourself.
Products area
We always store products such as cereals, flour, sugar, salt, oil, vinegar and spices outside the refrigerator. At first glance, protection from direct sunlight and room temperature is all that is needed to maintain freshness. But no.
To ensure that food does not spoil, is not affected by moths and takes up minimal space, you need to do 3 things:
- Get rid of the original packaging. It is too diverse and leaky. It is simply impossible to display products in orderly rows.
- Equip a shelf or drawer for storing products. It should be 0.5-1 m from hot surfaces. Also, don’t forget about protection from light. If this is a shelf, we use dark, light-proof containers for storage.
- Get containers for storing cereals, spices, flour, tea, coffee and everything else. It is optimal that it is made of glass and has a square shape. This will save up to 30% of space. But you can also use ordinary food trays, and even unnecessary plastic bottles and baby puree jars.
Sink area
At the next stage, we put things in order in the drawer under the sink, and at the same time near it. Here we have:
- cleaning and detergents, “Anti-grease”, other household chemicals;
- rags and rags, napkins, sponges;
- brushes, brush;
- latex gloves;
- trash can and garbage bags.
For convenience, we suggest doing the following:
- Hang an organizer on the closet door.
- Collect rarely used household chemicals in a tray or bucket and place them under the sink.
Here's what it might look like:
This area also includes cutlery and cutlery. But for convenience, we will consider it separately.
Crockery and cutlery area
The most comfortable area for storing dishes is considered to be a space 0.5 m from the sink or dishwasher. To prevent it from becoming covered in dust, it is worth equipping it with a lower drawer or a horizontal pencil case with a door that opens upward.
Special organizers will come in handy to collect dripping moisture and organize tableware. All kinds of shelves will help you effectively use up all the space in your drawer. Use multi-tiered coasters, inserts with fork and spoon holders, hanging structures for cups and mugs.
If the drawers are all occupied, you can store dishes in a hanging organizer shelf above the sink. Not very hygienic, but convenient!
Slab area
Gastronorm containers are placed in the area where food is directly prepared. It is very convenient to use the space under the oven for storing baking sheets and baking dishes:
For pans and pots, the bottom drawer closest to the stove is reserved. Pans with holes in the handles can be hung on hooks inside. If there are no holes, organizers with dividers and insert shelves will come to the rescue.
There are special stands for pots and pans:
Other possible options:
Equipment and auxiliary equipment area
Today, most families acquire all kinds of equipment and equipment that make cooking easier. This:
- whisk;
- blender;
- mixer;
- food processor;
- sandwich maker;
- waffle iron;
- toaster;
- coffee maker;
- microwave;
- multicooker;
- Electric kettle;
- other.
Sometimes they take up a third of the kitchen space. Professional chefs advise not to arrange utensils chaotically, but to collect them in a functional rack, cabinet, or, at worst, a large kitchen drawer.
Useful small items area
Everything that is not included in other zones is stored here:
- packages;
- rubber bands;
- holiday candles;
- baking foil;
- clamps;
- and other.
It is important to collect all these items together. Little things tend to accumulate and clutter up a large space. Therefore, we allocate one separate box for them and regularly sort through its contents.
Questions and answers
How to organize your kitchen drawers as quickly as possible?
Reorganizing your kitchen space in a short time is difficult. There is only one option to speed up the process. It is necessary to attract helpers and divide the zones among themselves. With a clear plan, a group of 2-3 people can complete the task in 2-3 hours.
How to make sure that order is maintained?
Maintaining order depends on the behavior of the people living in the house. At a minimum, all family members need to be informed of how kitchen utensils will now be placed. As a maximum, drawers and organizers should be decorated with stickers with a list of what is stored in them. This will help you quickly remember what is now lying (standing) and where.
Finally, order in cabinets and drawers appears when people feel comfortable using their contents. You shouldn’t go to extremes and chase beauty and aesthetic appearance at the expense of comfort. Original shelves and organizers will be of no use if they are non-functional and difficult to open or maintain.Organize your space so as not to perform unnecessary actions. This is the main secret of order in the kitchen!
