How Lavender Keeps My House Clean and Changes My Mood

Fragrant herbs are suitable not only for preparing drinks and dishes, they can also be used in everyday life. For example, lavender can be used during laundry, as a fragrance for the home and linen closet. Thanks to the essential oils contained in the herb, the plant has a bright aroma. The advantage of such a freshener is that it is 100% natural and has the ability to quickly eliminate unpleasant odors.

Lavender spray for textiles and bed linen

Lavender spray will especially help those who keep pets in their apartment, but at the same time like to maintain cleanliness, order and inhale the aroma of freshness. The herbal smell repels fleas, midges and all kinds of spider bugs.

In principle, it will be useful to any other housewife, because there are textiles in every home.

It's no secret that fabrics actively absorb all sorts of odors, be it cigarette smoke or the aroma of fried fish. Indoor curtains, upholstery, bedspreads, and blankets are easily saturated with aromatic molecules.

Lavender spray

You should not wash home textiles frequently, as this will cause them to wear out. There is an easy way to give fabrics a fresh scent using one of the Provençal herbs, lavender. To do this, it is not even necessary to have the plant itself in fresh or dry form in the house. You can get by with lavender essential oil purchased at the pharmacy. For residents of France, the use of such a spray has long become a tradition.Do you want to feel like a resident of Provence? Then remember the recipe:

  • 1 glass of distilled water;
  • 2 tbsp. spoons of vodka or alcohol;
  • 20 drops of lavender essential oil.

First, you need to dissolve lavender oil in vodka or alcohol, after which all components are combined in a washed and dried bottle with a spray bottle.

Lavender soap

The spray is ready. It can be applied to curtains, furniture upholstery, bedspreads after each cleaning of the house. This fragrance is also suitable for bed linen. Spray freshly made pillows and blankets before bed. Scientists have proven that the smell of lavender helps you fall asleep better.

Important! For any cleaning compositions, distilled water should be used. It does not leave streaks on the surface after the product dries, as it does not contain lime particles. You can buy distilled water in auto stores and hardware departments.

Conditioner for bath and kitchen towels

I want my bath towels to always remain soft, fluffy, and smelling good. Unfortunately, after several washes, terry fabric loses its softness. This happens due to the sedimentation of lime particles from hard water and washing powder residues on the fibers. For various reasons, not everyone uses ready-made air conditioners.

Lavender oil and vinegar

In this situation, 2 simple remedies will help you out:

  • make your own conditioner using 3 tbsp. spoons of table vinegar and 5 drops of lavender essential oil;
  • pour the resulting mixture into a special compartment for conditioner;
  • During the rinsing process, vinegar and dissolved lime will be washed out of the fabric fibers, but the light herbaceous smell of lavender will remain.

Kitchen towels are difficult to completely remove the smell of food, because sometimes we brush off crumbs with them or hastily wipe our hands that get dirty during the cooking process. Lavender conditioner is also used for washing them. Lavender not only scents the fabric, but also has a disinfecting effect. If the towels are soft, you can add essential oil to the washing gel and skip the vinegar.

Lavender as a carpet scent

If lavender grows on your windowsill or in your summer cottage, it can also be used for your home, after drying the plant branches. Distribute the dried flowers evenly over the carpet area and leave for a quarter of an hour.

During this time, the pile will absorb the tart aroma, then you just need to collect the petals with a vacuum cleaner. After this, a persistent lavender smell will remain in the room. This method can also be considered a preventive measure that eliminates the appearance of any insects.

Window cleaner with lavender essential oil

When washing windows, we often encounter the problem of streaks appearing. It is very difficult to find an industrial product that would completely wash glass without leaving traces, despite the rosy promises of manufacturers.

Even if the window seems clean, when the sun's rays hit it, streaks and circles are clearly visible, negating all cleaning efforts. I have been searching for a suitable solution for a long time and have tried many folk remedies. As a result, I settled on using a vinegar solution, which, in my opinion, gives the best result.

Lavender essential oil

However, the smell of vinegar, frankly speaking, is not very good. Lavender essential oil came to my aid in this case as well. I prepare a composition for cleaning window glass from the following ingredients:

  • 200 ml table vinegar;
  • 200 ml distilled water;
  • 12-15 drops of lavender essential oil.

I pour the resulting solution into a plastic spray bottle. After that, I use the product like any other glass cleaner.

Lavender sachet

Sachets are fabric bags, most often made of beautiful material, filled with dry aromatic herbs and flowers. Lavender is perfect for these purposes. In the wardrobe, a lavender sachet will repel moths and scent clothes. A bag of flowers can be placed between piles of bed linen and towels.

Lavender sachet

By hanging the sachet in the window opening, you will get an air freshener. The smell will spread throughout the room along with air currents during ventilation.

For the same purpose, lavender in a bag can be placed on a shelf in the bathroom. Warmth and moisture will activate the fresh aroma.

You can think of more ways to use lavender in your home. The plant will serve you well wherever you need to fill the space with freshness. Among other things, lavender essential oil calms the nervous system, helps restore mental balance, and relieves headaches.
