Methods for purifying tap water at home
The water flowing from the tap in a city apartment is far from perfect. It is suitable for various household needs, but is absolutely not suitable for drinking. Of course, you can use bottled products for food consumption or install a multi-level filter, but this pleasure costs money. There are various ways to purify water at home, each of which has its own advantages and disadvantages. If you find the optimal solution for yourself, you can receive life-giving moisture without leaving your apartment.
Boiling
The easiest way to purify water is boiling. Under the influence of high temperature, harmful microorganisms die, colloidal particles of dirt and various salts precipitate. The percentage of chlorine and other volatile components in the liquid is significantly reduced.
To obtain the maximum effect, water must be boiled for at least 20 minutes in an open pan so that harmful compounds can evaporate freely.
After boiling, the liquid should settle a little. Calcium salts deposited on the inner surface of the kettle or pan are removed using detergents containing soda.
Advocacy
Sedimentation is another way to purify tap water from harmful impurities and volatile compounds of chlorine and ammonia. The process is as follows: the liquid is poured into a tank, bucket or wide pan and left to settle for 8–10 hours. During this time, salts and heavy metals will sink to the bottom of the container, volatile compounds will evaporate naturally (of course, if the pan is not covered with a lid). The water is carefully poured into a clean container, leaving the sediment in place.
Freezing
An amazingly effective and simple way to purify water from microbes, salts and colloidal solutions. It is especially convenient to carry out such cleaning activities in winter, when it is frosty outside. In summer you will need a freezer for freezing.
Plastic bottles are filled 3/4 of the volume with liquid from the tap (when water freezes, it expands, so you should not fill the container entirely). The prepared bottles are placed in the freezer or taken out to the balcony and left until half the volume of water freezes.
Now all that remains is to drain the unfrozen liquid as unnecessary. After all, it contains all the harmful substances and salts that prevent the water from freezing. But the ice needs to be melted - and it can be used for its intended purpose.
Melt water contains a small amount of useful minerals, including potassium and sodium salts. The missing substances must be replenished with other products.
Silicon for water purification
Only pure silicon raised from great depths is suitable for water purification. You can buy this product at a pharmacy or order it from an online store. For the procedure, 50 g of mineral is enough.
Water purified by silicon acquires bactericidal properties, so bacteria and fungi are not able to live and multiply in it. In addition, the stone neutralizes impurities such as chlorine, iron, ammonium salts, mercury and phosphorus compounds.
Silicon water is obtained as follows:
- The stones are placed at the bottom of a glass jar and filled with tap water.
- The neck of the jar is tied with gauze. The container is left for 2–3 days in a place protected from sunlight.
- The vessel is transferred to a lighted room and kept at a temperature of +5°C for 5–7 days.
After this, the resulting solution is decanted and used for drinking and cooking.
Flint water cannot be boiled, otherwise all healing properties will be destroyed.
After use, stones should be washed with running water and removed from adhering dirt using a soft brush.
Shungite cleansing
Shungite is a mineral that allows you to purify water from chlorine, copper, manganese, iron, nitrates and nitrites, as well as helminth eggs. The stone makes the liquid transparent, removes tastes and odors, while at the same time saturating it with useful microelements.
To purify 1 liter of tap water, you will need a stone weighing 100 g. Shungite is placed on the bottom of a glass container, filled with liquid and left for 3 days, after which the upper layers are drained and consumed.
Of course, “folk” methods cannot be compared in effectiveness with the use of special filters. But it's much better than nothing. If you are concerned about your health and the health of your loved ones, be sure to purify tap water before drinking.
